Not Working?
Eric Giler wants to untangle our wired lives with cable-free electric power. Here, he covers what this sci-fi tech offers, and demos MIT's breakthrough version, WiTricity -- a near-to-market invention that may soon recharge your cell phone, car, pacemaker.

Very Cool,
I watched that documentary on Tesla a week or two ago and wondered if someone had gone anywhere with that technology. I can't beleive it took 100 years for someone to really pick up on that again.
It would be cool technology to get this working at a higher degree of efficiency. It would be awsome for cars, trains, ect. Imagine if they could link this up with a cell towere and cell towers sent out the signal for your cell and on another band kept the power up in your mobile device.

Cool indeed but the problem with large scale versions still exists. Who's going to pay for it?

Re: Ted Talks: Eric Giler Demos Wireless Electricity
So if we find the frequency that would work on humans we could create an actual Tesla Coil like in the old Red Alert.
Re: Ted Talks: Eric Giler Demos Wireless Electricity
Ah the Tesla Coil, one of the best base defense structures of any real-time strategy!

Re: Ted Talks: Eric Giler Demos Wireless Electricity
Another Tesla invention brought to life? How very sad, fifty years after the man is dead, finally someone reinvents what he already figured out but not commercialized. I wonder how many other unappreciated genius are outthere. something about tree falling in forest

Re: Ted Talks: Eric Giler Demos Wireless Electricity
He never talks about efficiency, which is usually the problem with inductive transfer: the technology is fine and dandy, but if i only get 20% of the grid power i put into the transmitter, i will go very broke, very soon.
