Buttocks or bullets
Gil Smart wonders how right-wingers might have reacted if anti-Bush protesters had packed heat like the anti-Obama protesters who show up at presidential events armed in order to "send a message."

Re: Buttocks or bullets
My guess is, some right wing pundit would have posted a video like this wondering what a left wing pundit would have done if right-wing protester showed up with fire arms at an event such as this one.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
This is pretty stupid. So the extreme left and extreme right have some differences. What's new?

Re: Buttocks or bullets
I don't think that protesting against torture is in any way 'extreme left'.

And being apathetic doesn't make you a moderate. It just means that you are irrelevant.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
Seriously. I'm against torture AND a supporter of the Second Amendment. I think both groups were just making their voices heard.

No problemo.

By the way, this device where pundits pretend that there are only TWO camps in America (conservatives and liberals) is increasingly false and ineffective.

False dichotomies are just as false as they've ever been, and I think you'd be surprised how effective they can be.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
Making naked stacks of people or carrying guns in a protest are forms of extreme protest. (of course everything's relative) How many people do this? Very few, or it wouldn't be news worthy.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
I think one issue which wasn't quite accurate in this video was why they were packing guns. The guy in the video seemed to be implying that they wanted to assassinate Obama or the democratic senators or house members at these town hall meetings.

However, according to some conservative propaganda I have seen, the actual reason for carrying was that these individuals thought the liberals would keep them from entering the town halls and speaking out by force. The propaganda suggested that these individuals should exercise their 2nd Amendment rights if this happened.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
I don't know if that's true and it's not really a much more flattering view anyway, but the fact is that fox news doesn't really care what the motivations (of liberals) really are. They don't care that much about facts.

The guy in this video assumes that you already know this and mostly just tries to point out how easily fox news would be able to label these guys terrorists (etc) if only they were liberals.

On a personal note : there's something very, very wrong about going to a political rally of an opponent toting guns.. even if you have the right.

I'm not trying to disagree with you here, just stating some info I got from some conservative propaganda. I don't think assassination was ever on the table (although it wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened).

Re: Buttocks or bullets
Passing by a big screen TV in the gym today with Fox News Channel on, I saw "ALERT: Obama taking a week's vacation" on the crawler.

Interesting. More than six months into his presidency, he takes a week. The prior president took a month and over one third of his eight years time in office at either the ranch neear Crawford, TX or at Camp David, MD.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
That's the same reason that this video was made. It's not so much that the guy brought a gun to the protest or whatever. It's about the DUR DUR hypocracy we're getting from the right.

Back in the Bush years if you didn't agree with the President it was "Love it or leave it!" but now it's "dissent is good for democracy!" and they pat themselves on the back for coming up with the idea.

GRRRRRRRRRR it's frustrating.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
Were they criticizing the vacation, Spam?

The President going on vacation is always a big story (as it was every few weeks during the Bush years! LOL!).

Also, FOX labels just about everything an "ALERT!". It's very misleading. I don't watch TV, but when I'm at someone's house, and FOX TV comes on, I hear "This is a FOX News Alert!". It always scares me for a second, because I think that something EPIC and TERRIBLE must have happened. Then it turns out that Britney owes Federline more money, or something.

Re: Buttocks or bullets
Anyone conspicuously displaying a weapon at an event like this KNOWS that it is likely to be perceived as a threat. If this were not their intent, they would not be doing it. Any other motive they might claim is a secondary one, if not entirely disingenuous.

As I take a step back, and read the thoughtful comments posted here, I think we all deserve a pat on the back. I didn't see any immature insults, or death threats, or even any painful lack of punctuation.
