I remember when that first came to light.

A man used derogatory term to play on Barney's last name. Irony of it was that that man's name was Dick Army.

Great post.

I'm of the opinion that your comment could've been better dealt with by the person who decided to ban it. Personally, I'm not in favor of banning comments, unless it's outright spam.

Anyway, it undoubtedly has to do with you 'attacking' the congressman on his sexual orientation. According to M&C's rules of good conduct, ad hominem attacks of that nature are strictly verboten. Heck, I believe ad hominem attacks are not desired here at all. Not sure about that, as I post them all the time (often disguised in various degrees of sarcasm, I shall admit).

Truly, I'd prefer to see the comment stand untouched, and to see also a (civil) debate develop.

I think I remember you attacking me one time personally. That was in the days of McCain vs. Obama, when I wrecked both but some people thought I was pro Obama, for some mysterious reason. Didn't your vicious comment stand? Yes, it did. I couldn't care less. I would've disliked to have the comment banned, though. Makes me look like a pussy.

Now I'm curious. What did you write?

I have this game I like to play called "Is the conservative's concern about leftist bias well-founded?" The game would be boring if it was just a matter of answering 'yes,' or 'no,' since that part is pretty predictable. The real fun comes in getting to answer "no, those are facts," or "no, that's just good journalism," or "no, that's just a matter of decency." Care to spin the wheel?

Why's this getting all those *****?

The woman has guts and actually contributes something useful. The congressman, on the other hand, is a loathsome scumbag, on account of his political behavior.

I bet few here know what's in the bill (or what was in it). I bet few know how corrupt the congressman is. I bet few know history.

Feel free to wallow in your fascist society, though. One day the boot steps on your face and crushes it. Here's to hoping you'll love it, licking the boot as it splinters your bones.

Without refuting B. Frank's transgressions... how exactly was what the lady said "useful"? I've heard it said that whenever the words "Hitler" or "Nazi" are invoked as a comparison, the argument is lost. I tend to agree.

In today's world, that is correct most of the time. Therefore, the woman should've invoked Sauron and his Nazgûl. Much better name recognition and all that.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
Yeah but seriously now, how is equating health care reform to global genocide "contributing something useful"?

Even if you think that socialized medicine is a horrible idea it's takes a real imbecile to come to the conclusion that it's the same thing as intentionally hunting down and exterminating an entire race of people.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
Um, for one thing the healthcare reform is the plan for genocide, or at least an early framework along those lines. It will, once being signed into law, be embellished. That's a given.

Healthcare reform is the plan, the plan is genocide.

However, it isn't marketed as a plan for genocide. Duh. Not even Hitler (Sauron never got involved in healthcare) was that stupid.

It isn't socialized medicine at all. That would be terrible. Obama's push for healthcare reform is worse than terrible.

Remember, his plans are embraced by the big pharmaceutical corporations and the like. That should ring a bell. More profits, more customers, less care. Making care scarce. Deciding who gets care, and what care. Having no personal say in the matter. Having the State run your health. Obama wants total control over your body. He said so himself publicly. Not immediately, of course. First, he'll force you to pay and give up your freedom. Then he has you by your balls, or, if you're a woman, his hand will be up your uterus. That makes me sound like a Birther. Mmm ... "Then he'll have his black arm up to his elbow inside your uterus ..." The racist Birther. Hah!

Do your research. Obama's people are actively trying to curb the population. Also find out what his lady did at the hospital. Good stuff.

Some random thoughts somewhat linked to this matter:

I have some experience with socialized medicine, being Dutch. Take it from me that socialized medicine sucks big time. Just recently, it was again announced that the mandatory payments will skyrocket -- again. This wouldn't be terrible, weren't it for the MANDATORY and the SUCKS BIG TIME. When I watched TV (many years ago), it was always healthcare on the news. Healthcare and the poor Jews who were being shot at with rocks and rockets by the Palestinians. I don't wish that experience on my worst enemy.

Anyway, we should of course all be glad we aren't Chinese. Did you know Chinese civil servants are actually forced to smoke cigarettes? It stimulates the economy, the Chinese government says. I just wanted to air that fact. Perhaps Orwell would cackle at that. And you know why.

So, and now I have typed all this real fast, I jump back to what you wrote and FUCK! I noticed 'imbecile.' But, I realize Obama is not planning to exterminate an entire race of people, so I come off clean here. Phew! Close one. It would take another ten minutes to make the above comment truly drip with sarcasm.

Anyway, best of luck.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
Great job continuing to spout off wild and inflammatory claims without any supporting facts whatsoever.

Here are a couple of facts:

The US ranks 30th in life expectancy in the world. That's below all nearly all of Western Europe (including the Netherlands, which supposedly has a "terrible" healtchare system) and only marginally better than China. It also ranks 28th in the world for infant mortality rates, again below nearly all of Western Europe including the Netherlands.

http://www.cdc.gov/omhd/amh/factsheets/infant.htm)

In 2007, 28% of Americans had no health insurance coverage whatsoever. That is MORE THAN 1 IN 4, AND IS NEARING 1 IN 3 (http://www.commonwealthfund.org/Content/Publications/Fund-Reports/2008/Aug/Losing-Ground--How-the-Loss-of-Adequate-Health-Insurance-Is-Burdening-Working-Families--8212-Finding.aspx).

This essentially means that they have no regular access to medical care except for emergency room visits, which are EXTREMELY expensive on the hospitals which provide them. However, they legally cannot turn away anyone from the emergency room, for obvious reasons.

Oh, and I should mention that even though the US is doing poorly compared to other industrialized nations, we spend MORE MONEY PER CAPITA ON HEALTHCARE THAN ANY OTHER NATION IN THE WORLD.

So there is obviously something royally fucked up about the system. Healthcare reform is needed. All I here are lies about the healthcare reform bill such as fictitious "death panels" and the like. And more importantly, there are so many LIES ABOUT CURRENT HEALTHCARE. People act as though healthcare isn't ALREADY regimented in the US with boards determining whether or not vital, needed procedures will be performed.

I think a vigorous debate and discussion about this important act is needed, but I have heard very, very little in the way of this. The only really valid objection I've heard is that the bill is not budget-neutral. Otherwise, I hear virtually nothing but lies or contentless slander. I'm getting sick and tired of this bullshit.

Here's the woman's argument:

Look, I drew a Hitler mustache on Obama's portrait. That's it. She raised that portrait up and said, "Look OBAMA IS HITLER." She added NOTHING of any content more.

You think that a contentless, informationless, and completely vapid statement is a valuable contribution?

I bet YOU don't know what's in the bill. And also this is a debate about this healthcare, and not about this particular Congressman's past indescrections.

Why didn't she give any FACTS about the healthcare bill raise objections based upon these facts? Then at least there would be something to discuss at all.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
Granted, I do not think painting a Hitler moustache on Mr. Obamania says all that much nowadays to the masses and thus falls on deaf ears. To some, it raises genuine questions and the will to go investigate. Some smile. Some ridicule. It's those that ridicule I have the utmost contempt for. The Congressman here is one of the latter. If you know anything of value about the American political system, it's that people such as the congressman Frank are the enemies of America. They do not serve your interests, and here I assume your interests are benign. What faith I have in people!

Oh, it's Obama who doesn't know what's in his fucking bill.

Good day to you.

Yes, woman deserves ridicule. Why should a poster of Obama with a Hitler mustache deserve to be taken seriously?

If this woman had a braincell, she would give the bill's supporters reasons as to why this bill would be so disastrous for Americans

Do you have any idea what's going on in these town meetings? The opposition is just people shouting phrases like "Obama is Hitler" and "Obama is Stalin" and not raising objections in a way that would allow for an actual exchange of intelligent arguments.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
The ladies argument I believe is that a government big enough to give all of it's citizens healthcare is big enough to take it away. I believe what she meant by the Hitler comparison is that by our government controlling how, when, where, who, and why all Americans get or don't get healthcare they're also controlling our freedom of choice.

Now, remove freedom of choice from the public and the next thing you know, the public becomes complacent. No one argues with what it is, we all get in line when they say get in line...we jump when they say to jump...we take a needle in the arm of some vaccine for some outbreak of some flu, and who knows, a few people in high enough places with the power to force innoculate you and your family could easily erradicate a race of people or the country as a whole...and thay, my friends, is the connection to Hitler.

Once you give up your choice, and your freedoms as Americans to your government, you think when things "calm down" or "get better" that they are going to just give it back? You think if this experiment fails, and more people die under a government mandated heathcare system than before that the government is going to do the right thing and take it all back and make it better? HELLS NO! Once big pharmacy starts seeing the profit margins soar, therefore allowing them more and more access into congress/senate as lobbiests and special interest groups, they're not going to want to put everything back how they found it.

Hey, I hope none of this happens...I really do! But I suggest all of you "hope" in one hand, and shit in the other..and tell me which hand fills up first.

We have to fight for what our founders tried to give us...and that's freedom of choice. Don't let big corporations and big media tell you what to do or think anymore!!!

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
Somehow, I don't understand this. It is the big pharmaceuticals and insurance companies which don't like this proposed bill because it will create more competition and kill their record profits. You make it sound like these parties love Obama and his plan, which is BS.

Tell me, who do you think is telling Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Hannity, and every other right wing goomba to make Obama out to be another Hitler/Stalin and the plan to be a government takeover of healthcare (which is also complete BS).

People seem to forget, but this is just the McCain vs Obama presidential campaign all over again. Last time, Palin made Obama out to be a terrorist, now she's making him out to be a Hitler who creates death panels.

I cannot believe people don't realize these despicable political tactics for what they are - baseless fear mongering.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
See, the whole basis of your argument is that somehow government does not have our interests in mind at all and that some how corporations do (which you later contradict towards the end of your post).

Is government perfect, hell no. Does it always work smoothly, really hell no.

Do I trust our government more than insurance companies and the current system. Big yes on that one.

The only "choice" we have is to either go with a faceless, PROFIT driven (not caring-about-your-health driven) corporation or nothing at all. Oh, so many options! How does a man decide?

These companies are driven by the same people who drove the housing market into the ground, nearly destroyed our banking system, and started this whole crisis in the first place. And they STILL make millions a year.

Yea, I'll take our democratically ran government any day of the week.

Re: Barney Frank to Hitler Woman: What Planet Are You from?
What choice are we being asked to give up? It's called "public option" for a reason - once passed, the government health plan is f'ing OPTIONAL. No one, no where, will be forced to have this. It doesn't eliminate private sector health care providers or their insurance behemoths. It doesn't stifle competition, in fact it will foster it (free market, anyone?).

The argument that the health care reform that's on the table will somehow take away a slice of our freedom is ignorant at best, and at worst, a maliciously and intently propagated falsehood. Think of who stands to benefit from killing this bill. Big Pharma, and they're the only ones. Look at the money they've spent on lobbying against this (for nearly 50 years!) and the truth becomes undeniably obvious. Anyone arguing for that side is being played like a fiddle, and most don't have the slightest idea of who their puppeteers really are.

The connection to Hitler isn't a connection at all. It's a scare tactic, plain and simple. The blueprint: drudge up the name of the scariest man from the scariest regime in all the scariest movies and tell people it applies to [insert item you're arguing against here]. It's the pinnacle of idiocy.

"Don't let big media tell you what to think." What about big pharma? Should we blindly listen to them instead, and side with their interests? Fuck no. Wake up.

The Doctors Office Before HMOs

Some things never change. Then there are those things that change so drastically you really long for the good old days. The doctors office is one of those things.

Back in the pre-HMO days, a visit to see the doctor seemed just like that, a visit. Nothing at all like today. When comparing the two eras, you notice the difference from the second you walked in the door. Before things changed, when you walked in, you did one thing, and only one thing. You waited to see the doctor with a magazine in your hand. It may have been a few minutes or a couple of hours, but that's how plain an office visit was.

I remember three doctors my mom used to take us to when we were kids: Dr. Samuel Foreman, Dr. Mario Salamone, and Dr. Peter Cocco, with Dr. Foreman being our regular family doctor. All three have departed and are no longer with us. My mom told me on numerous visits while we sat waiting, "you should have seen it here in the old days. People would be lined up outside the door to see Dr. Foreman". It seems he was a generous soul, if you couldn't afford to pay him, it was okay, he'd see you anyhow, no questions, IOUs, bills, or anything else. He was just a benevolent neighborhood doctor who cared. It wasn't possible for him to keep track of billing anyhow. As I said, when you walked in, you sat and waited. There were no receptionists, and no one to keep record of your visit. It was only after Dr. Foreman had a heart attack did his wife come to work in the office as his receptionist. You paid the doctor or receptionist ten dollars ($10.00) cash back then, no receipt, no insurance, nothing to complicate the visit. Your health mattered, the other things were handled later.

Speaking of complicating things, you didn't find pharmaceutical reps in the office in those days, only patients. I don't even know if such reps existed at that time, I never saw them. Today, they line up to see some doctors. There they sit with their big smiles, promotional materials, and dinners or vacations to offer the doctors if they'll write prescriptuions for their brand of medications for everything from hemmoroid treatments to pills that will grow new hair on your bald head. I give my neurologist credit, he seems to have no time for them. I was in his office a couple months ago when a rep came in all beaming, asking the receptionist to see the doc. The receptionist told her she had little chance, and sure enough, the Dr. sternly told the rep he was seeing patients and their care came first, he had no time for her. Finally, the patient gets first priority! That's exactly what you want to see.

And remember what I said about waiting? Part of that was because the doctor took more time to listen to you explain your problems, or maybe just your bellyaching to him. When you got in to the examination room, you had the physician's ear. No rushing because two dozen others were lined up behind you - a dozen more than should have been booked for the day. You were there because you had problems, and the doctor was the solution.

Those days are gone. Now if you don't have insurance or the - what is it, $80 or more to see your family doctor - you'll be heading to see a doctor somewhere else instead, maybe a clinic or some other low-cost facility. You won't be handing the doctor a ten for the visit, you'll be giving the receptionist $20 or more for your co-pay. And even though you'll get to see the doctor, you probably won't get to spend too much time with him or her. I don't fully fault the doctor for that. With HMOs and other insurance, you'll find many more people lining the seats in the waiting room than ever before. Ah, the good old days!

=====

Learn your history, this only got all shitty after HMO's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QkgUkM0o6Q <--- I know you saw this!!!! WANT TO FIX HEALTHCARE!! GET FUCKING GOVERNMENT AND BIG BUSINESS OUT OF IT!!!!! WAKE UP!

I like the idea of public health care, but the U.S. is kind of broke and in a lot of debt right at the moment isn't it? So are we gonna run up some more debt the credit card? This is something that should have been implemented in the Clinton administration or in a future administration where we're not in such a crappy financial situation. I wish politicians would find ways to pay for policies instead of borrowing money. But Obama has an ego to maintain.

Its not an analogy, it is accurrate application of a label.

National Socialist. As I said, apart from aparthied, show the big ideological differences . . . Nazi did mean National Socialist. They were both leftist and fascist. They did take over the finance industry of Germany, they did take over the auto and aero industry. They did take over healthcare in that country.

As I have had to repeat, over and over, APART from the APARTHIED, point out some big differences in political ideology, particularly on the domestic level.

Well, one big difference could be that the Nazi's were a party that had a major component of NATIONALISM in their party platform and ideology... and name for that matter.

No current group on the left is that enamored with nationalism as far as I can see. Just look around, the American left has always been against that whole "Country First, rah-rah-rah" position. We aren't sheep, and we make our allegiances based on merit, not jingoism.

Democrats tend to be critical of their country and less likely to engage in the mass psychosis known as patriotism because they love their country and actually want it to improve. People who are blindly patriotic (republicans) will only look at one side of the issue in a very self centered fashion. The Nazis probably felt very patriotic as they killed a bunch of jews. Similarly, I'm sure the citizens of the U.S. felt very patriotic as we bombed cities like Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

So in summary: Patriotism=bat shit crazy

I can't wait for a good civil war so that Patriots and the NRA can purge this nation of the dead weight naysayers, rooting for the other teams.
