Not Working?
n Old Japan, ghost stories were a form of old fashion all natural air conditioning designed to induce cold shivers on hot summer nights.
Here I re-tell an old story about a samurai who risks his life for a wager to prove his courage by crossing a bridge haunted by a demon.
The story can be found in "Japanese Tales" an anthology of old stories compiled by Royall Tyler.

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
Um, did I miss something? Why is this a headline?
Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
maybe because unlike most headlines this isn't taken from movie or tv clips that could be posted by anyone

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
Well, I like the story. Please do more of them.
Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
My question was sincere. I've posted videos before that I created, but I didn't herald them as my own, but instead let them stand by their own merit. They didn't even make permanent, much less headline. The story seemed disjointed and incomplete, and the editing was choppy. No offense intended, Samurai Dave, I just found the video to be unremarkable. For the record, I withheld my vote, so the current rating does not reflect my opinion at all. Please do post more stuff, I like the premise, and see a lot of potential for the format.. Just don't expect a different reaction from me if it is of the sane production quality.
Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
Ok, here my submission. I created this from scratch, the filming, editing (hint, it's a loop) music overlay, but I know it's mediocre and am not hurt that it was ignored. Please, tell me your honest opinion.

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
I am almost under the impression that you think I pick the headlines here. I don't, and never have. Jaxon decides which links to upgrade to headline status. By voting we can influence his decisions to some extent. In the end, it's his decision solely.
My comment above was just making my opinion known. I decided to do that to let Samurai D know there are also those who like (some of his) videos, or at least the one at the top of this comment section. It encourages him, maybe, to keep visiting M&C and posting links here to his material. If he stops going here, I personally would still receive his videos through my YouTube subscription to his channel, but those who've never heard of him would miss opportunities to run into him. Variety makes M&C great. Something for everybody or at least a whole lot of people.
I don't know what my opinion on that link of yours would add, RM. If you insist, I hadn't seen it yet (must say I am less active here) and I don't think it's headline material but something some folks undoubtedly enjoy. Therefore, the rating hovering near ***, no doubt. Do I think this Samurai D link is headline material? Well, I gave it ****, which means I think it's good. If I were allowed to pick headlines, I think I would've chosen it.
Anyway, does it matter what my headline choices would be? I doubt it. I would choose many links Jaxon also chooses. Then again, he sometimes chooses stuff I don't particularly care for. Naturally, that's to be expected. He and I are not the same person.
Man, I am verbose. Excuse me.

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
well of course it's rough. I'm not a professional video maker by trade. I've never taken a class on it for one. I only got a camera and starting editing videos less than 3 years ago.
As for the production quality I was going for very low because I wanted to imitate old storytelling where it was just the storyteller - no special effects or music. As for choppy editing there was no editing. It was pretty much one shot with one transition.
As for the delivery, I'm not a professional storyteller so I make mistakes and trip up on my tongue. If I was a pro would I be uploading vids to Youtube? No, I'd be out on the circuit making money.
Basically, don't set your standards too high with us regular youtubers. Save it for the professionals.

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
I really wasn't trying to trash your video. I respect and admire your effort and initiative, and would like to see you refine your technique. I commented only because I felt it was not of the standard usually required for headlines. I wouldn't have wanted my link made a headline for the same reason.
I can see why you would see this as an attack on your work, but I would like you to understand that I provided specific criticism to back up my point that it was not headline-worthy. The idea is original for most internet videos seen today. The framing, lighting, and supporting commentary show the effort and thought you put into it.
I never said I liked the video (though, I do like it) only because it was not essential to my argument. I would feel terrible if this were to affect your interest in making such videos, and hope sincerely that you keep it up.

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
unfortunately my last ghost story video got voted down into oblivion so you probably won't see anymore if this trend continues

Re: Japanese Ghost Stories - The Demon-Haunted
Because Samuraidave is like our reporter from japan here at M&C. So whenever he posts something, it's always a headline for us. I never got to thank you before, so thanks, Dave.

I watch all of these. I love oral storytelling.
Heh, I said "love."
