If the Federal reserve were truly independent, and did not establish their monetary policy for political reasons, how is it possible that interest rates were set to zero at a time when the savings rate in America was barely over 1%?
When banks are under-capitalized; when borrowers are over-leveraged, that is precisely what should drive interest rates up.
