I've seen this one before and it could even be a duplicate, but try finding it in the database ...

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
A many of the source links are cropped so I can't check them. I think it's quite funny that despite there already being so many comments on this vid, I'm the first one to mention the broken source links.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
From the uploader on Youtube:
"Hmm..yeah some of them seem to be broken. Thanks for mentioning it. I'll try to clean them up."
I've checked and they are not fixed yet... but maybe soon.

Just checked again and the sources are still not fixed. I don't think this link stands on it's own without them and I feel it should never have been posted until they were provided.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
Atheists have a God, it is called Science, Reason or just being an Atheist. Like in any religion there is a set of beliefs, in part based on rejection of standard religious beliefs. 600 years ago theologians and average folk accepted Bible on blind faith, so now do the masses accept scientific theories without ever testing for themselves. Hey how about Darwin day? Oh, already there is one, mark your calendars it is February 12. Also a good one should be the day of creation, once a year celebration of Big Bang Theory, sounds like a great party, I am thinking here very Bacchanalian, lots of food and drink. Atheists are organized with many books and online arguments for atheism. Might as well make it official, i think it would be beneficial to put all of those beliefs in an official atheist book or website - atheist bible. OOPS, there is already one. blinders, blinders i tell you

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
Why can't Darwin have a day? Martin Luther King has a day. Queen Victoria has a day. Hell, pirates and secretaries have days.
The rest of your post is even more stupid then "Darwin's Day" so I don't really feel the need to expand on it.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
Kind of a recurring theme for argument here on M&C. I'm loathe to start it up again, but I can't help offering at least a cursory response. If you define religion as a system of spiritual beliefs, you cannot define the lack of a system of spiritual beliefs as a religion. The only thing that defines an atheist is the lack of such a system. Gorilla's don't believe in god. Are Gorillas atheist? If religion had never been invented, everyone would be an atheist, but there would be no word for it. Atheism is not another kind of religion, nor is it the negative value of religion, it is the zero point, the non-value, part of no set. You cannot divide by zero. Subtract zero from anything add it to anything, multiply it by anything, it won't change that thing. If religion is a flashlight, atheism isn't a flashdark. You cannot define what does not exist. Atheism is non-religion. If atheism were a religion, I would call you a Un-Atheist, but I don't, because that would be a double negative. If I am defined by what I don't believe in, I can think of way more important things that don't exist than god.
Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
Maybe I'm being a bit anal here but atheism seems more opposite (and in some cases actually opposing) religion. It's not zero point. Zero point would be agnostics either because they are indifferent or undecided. You don't hear agnostics saying the world would be better off without religion.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
Atheism opposes religion the same way the truth opposes a lie. It's like saying you have some people that always tell the truth, and some that always tell lies, and some that don't care about truth or lies, perhaps mingling them freely...so this third group is supposed to be 'zero point'?
I don't really have a problem with religious people. I've known some truely good, upstanding folks that are very religious...but I do have a problem with the few that want to cram their beliefs and fantasies into my government, laws, etc. Even going so far as to punish me for not being a believer.

Or you could say that some people wear red shirts, some people wear blue shirts, and some people wear white shirts. However, some people don't believe in shirts and therefore don't wear them. Is no shirt a shirt?

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
Oddly enough Atheists don't generally have science as a god. The part of the brain that is activated by "Faith" in a religion or god is not the same part that gets activated when "believing in science." Its a left brain -> right brain issue. There is only one field of science that consistantly activates the same part of the brain as religion.... String Theory, which is interesting because Theory derives from theo which is where we get theology the study of religion. There are thousands of studies trying to prove string theory and every time it is disproved, an few new studies start, because String Theorists want so bad to prove themselves right. Basicly they want to prove the existance of their god.
There are many studies about how the brain is activated, oddly enough you wanted to base your arguement off your beliefs and not science and the scientific method. Science, reason, and math are all left brain processes. Faith, creativity, music, art, inter/intra personal skills are all right brained.
So before ASSuming something, look into some studies about it, or are you saying those studies were faked?

What is this song and why is it used in over 99% of texted base interwebs videos
Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
It's by Moby... lemme think for a second (or google as the case may be)... !
Ahh, learn something new every day, it is:
Clubbed To Death (Kurayamino Mix) by Rob Dougan.
Moby comes into it somewhere else, looks like Rob Dougan did a Clubbed to Death remix of Moby's Porcelain.
And it's used all the time 'cause it's from the Matrix... although it is quite good on it's own merits.

I want a shoehorn, the kind with teeth.
People should get beat up for stating their beliefs.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
And a few more points for poor spelling. If I caught them, does that mean I'm more of an atheist than he is? Well, go me!
By: SpyPlaneX1
Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
to mention the bad spelling is nitpicking, but you should never misspell a word when the word illiteracy is in the same sentence(povety?). i recently told some friends that i was raised by strict agnostics and it went completely over their heads. the problem is we have real prejudice in this country against atheists. we have a black president, but will we ever have an atheist president or supreme court judge? and where can i get a flashdark?

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
"...but will we ever have an atheist president or supreme court judge?"
Who is to say we haven't had one of either yet? The point is that we are not likely to have one who is particularly vocal about it.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
As I've said before, I grew up in a religion that states that mankind will eventually reject religion. Hearing these statistics actually proves what I was told, so I find it reassuring.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
to add to my previous post:
the leaders of Communist China and the fomer Soviet Union brutally suppressed religion.
Did they produce a better world or a better life for their citizens.
Statistics is not as simple as you may think, most people including myself would not be able to get a Master's degree in statistics, much less a Doctorate.

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
I've always felt the same way. There will always be statistics and many of them mean nothing. If you walk into a flower shop and only women work there, does that make them sexist?

Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
My point was that the movement called atheism has all the trappings of a religion. Holidays, special people days, and most importantly a fanatic following, just look at all the blogs. So what you belive is called "no God", fine. My request is simple just throw great holiday parties, Darwin day included. Atheists seem like a dried up, concept oriented bunch.
By: imkoan
Re: Atheism: A Better World for All
All the trappings except belief, the definition of religion, yes? For that matter, why don't somehow try and make a religion out of Star Trek. It has a fanatical following, doesn't it?
The point is that there are many 'movements' that fit your criteria for religion. The reason why you're not nominating them for religion status is because their subject matter is not about a god or gods.
