Re: It's Evolution Baby
This takes a very Euro-centric look on the Rapanui culture. If they didn't have the wheel, those dumb islanders must have dragged the 75 + ton monoliths across the island, right? That's a bit of a false dilemma, isn't it? My roommate and I didn't have a hand cart to move the new refrigerator into the house, but we certainly didn't just drag the damn thing on its back like a couple of lesser apes dragging a dead animal. We came to the same conclusion that Thor Heyerdahl did in 1986, and 'walked' the modern monolith by rocking it back and forth. Even if that's not the method the Rapa Nui used, why would we suppose they couldn't have similar problem-solving capabilities that we do?
And the process we see here is not at all evolutionary. This is revolutionary, stupid. Using the term 'evolution' loosely only helps confused little fundy Christian children make ignorant arguments about the origin of species.
