Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
Yep -
Everyone loves Wallyworld, but they are destroying the small retail businesses - there are way too many Walmarts for the little guy to survive, personally I do NOT shop there anymore. If aint American made or American owned I aint buyin'!!

Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
Agreed. I do not believe in Wal-mart's tactics in order to turn a profit. Not only do they ruin small business, but their practices are not ethically sound. The #1 company should set a better example. However, if they set a better example, they could probably not afford to be #1.

Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
Let 'em burn.
If the "little guy" can not compete than he shouldn't be. I'm not going to deprive myself of goods at a better price because someone in-town doesn't know how to get the same goods for cheaper.
Everyone's f'ing solution is subsidies... "it's alright, I can pay more, if it means that a local retailer stays in business." "Sure, lets pour half of the milk produced in the US down the drain if it means that we can keep our family farms afloat."
If these local-retailers want to survive they need to adapt. Get a co-op going where they can share the importing/distributing costs between each other, order in much larger quantities to realize greater savings in bulk, etc...

Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
there slogan SHOULD be: Walmart poisoning your food, redistributing wealth, all while using illegal immigrants and exploiting third world countries.

Anti-Walmart People: Being crybabies about capitalism, and utilizing hyperbole to tug at liberal heartstrings.
Tell people living under the poverty line not to shop at WalMart, even though it saves them thousands per year, because you don't like their business practices.

Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
Since when is monopoly a good thing in capitalism?
You don't understand the cycle of poverty that occurs BECAUSE of walmart. Walmart is saving anyone anything, but rather just syphoning money out of local economies and contributing to poverty, which then FORCES people to shop there out of desperation.

Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
Ain't nothing "liberal" about staying away from Wal-Mart.
When did we become a nation where Americans who buy American-made goods are somehow, uh, "liberal?" Explain, please.
Let the "little guy" burn? What little guy? Who? You? You gonna tithe all your dollars to Wal-Mart or others like 'em so they can send ever more American jobs overseas? So people can't afford what you're selling/doing for work, and then you're out of a job, too? This entire situation isn't magically limited to a local retailer.
It's ultimately about American production and our economy.
And no one who understands these economics would suggest without irony that a few local shops buying American goods in greater bulk can in any way compete with the buying power of a national giant like Wal-Mart who sells goods made by slaves.
Why do you think Wal-Mart sells so cheap? They're based on slavery.
Wal-Mart's "low prices guaranteed" are entirely predicated on third-world slave labor replacing American manufacturing jobs. Why do you think we've seen such a drastic shift of wealth in middle class Americans to the wealthy in China and corporate powers? Hmm...uh...hold on, lemme connect these here dots...
And calling someone who deigns not to shop at Wal-Mart a "crybaby about Capitalism" and then accusing them of hyperbole? Awe-some. Funniest quote on M&C this week.
Not shopping at Wal-Mart is all about selfish capitalism. It's about keeping money in your local economy so people can buy your own goods and services. Or you can continue the path to American fiefdom. Your choice.
Heck, we almost are now. We're owned by our debt. We have such a huge trade deficit and division of wealth. And our nation is broke but continues buying crap from China because there are still checks in our checkbook. Reminds me of something done by the dumbest PFC I knew back when I was in the Army.
Oh, but shopping at Wal-Mart saves poor people thousands each year...so let's do it for the poor people! Actually, I didn't know people still repeated that tired lie. Yes, Wal-mart helps the poor! They're better than religion! Ooh...except for the millions of Americans who lost their manufacturing jobs from Chinese stuff sold at places like Wal-Mart. Now those "poor people" are f*cked.
Ah well...sorry to be a "liberal crybaby about capitalism." Clearly buying Chinese goods sold at Wal-Mart and other "American" corporations who ship jobs overseas is working out very well for us all. Very well indeed.

Re: Homes, Firehouses, and Churches
Well, ain't that interesting? I don't have to add much more, but just to satisfy my writing urges again, here goes:
1) Guess what corporation is doing so extraordinarily well in these times?
2) Shopping at Wal*Mart is economic suicide and (do I need to say it?) morally corrupt. They sell crap. Reason enough not to buy there, if you ask me.
All the other stuff below has (un)fortunately (depending on how you look at it) been deleted by yours truly, out of consideration for sensitive ears -- and to give my paws some rest after hours of fondling Inuit ladies.
