Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
This was great. Up was absolutely phenomenal. Pixar really can do no wrong.
So, though really has little to do in particular with this clip, my question is:
What does Pixar get out of joining with Disney? I mean, aren't mergers typically supposed to be synergistic, or some crap like that? If anything, Pixar gave a lot more to Disney than it gained.

my guess is pixar gets disney's distribution power

Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
Maybe so, but it really seems to be to be a weak trade-off considering the name Pixar have made for themselves over the past decade or so.
5 years or more ago, this would have made great sense. For it to take place now? Really seems quite pointless.

Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
No, Disney is a monster studio, one of the "Big Six" no one has the resources they do for distribution and connections. Pixar would be making art house films without them.
Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
While Disney might be big, again, Pixar didn't really need them. Because by your logic, every film they made before Wall-e was an art house film.
Sir/Ma'am/It - That is just about the silliest assertion I've heard this week. You should just consider yourself lucky that it is Monday and someone still has time to top you.

Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
You are correct Poo -- Pixar didn't need them. And they knew that when they renegotiated their distribution deal a few years ago. The deal they worked out with Disney allowed Pixar to put their own executives at the top levels at Disney. John Lasseter, former head of Pixar, is now CCO at both Pixar and Disney. Hopefully the quality of Disney offerings will come back up, now that he's had a few years to change course (as it takes 3-5 years to make any animated feature). :)

Yeah, I'm not a Disney hater. I just wanted to see what they actually got out of the deal. Basically, a white collar revolution from the inside. Power.
I watched Bolt for the first time last night. It was nice and kinda fun, but I don't know, it wasn't Pixar, that's for sure.
Obviously, it didn't have the same depth of emotion that Wall-e or Pixar had. But, there is more to it than that. It seemed to lack the spontaneity that the Pixar films possess. Even with Lasseter as the executive producer of Bolt(which I know isn't exactly a hands-on role).
And Bolt came out last year. The difference in quality of animation showed too. To the trained eye, you can see that a Pixar film is head and shoulders above a film such as Bolt.
Don't get me wrong, Bolt was very good animation. But where, Bolt was very good; both Wall-e and Up were phenomenal. It just shows how far above Disney, Pixar is.

Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
Was this the movie shown before Up? I heard that whatever movie preceded Up was actually better.
Presto was really good as well.

Re: Pixar: Partly Cloudy, Full Version
I wouldn't say that Partly Cloudy was better than Up. They were both excellent.
I can see, however, in our short attention span society, how someone would be more impressed/impacted by Partly Cloudy than Up.
It was short and gets its point across in about 5 minutes or so. And it is very touching.
Up was very touching too, as much, if not more so. However, it is more intricate in nature. And takes longer to play out. In the long run, I found Up, much more compelling and heart-wrenching. I think that kind of opinion really just depends on your individual personality and what you like out of a movie.

I guess those of us in the USA can't watch this due to DMCA issues or something.
