You'd think she'd know not to mess with letterman after what he did to McCain.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Some people NEVER learn.

Typical politician, esp. Republican, will use any excuse to get upset and take a hardline stance on anything that will make headlines

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Proof positive that she's not ready for the national stage. Getting into a public argument with a comic is never a good move.

Notice how McCain came on the show after his cancellation and "I have to rush to DC to fix the economy" nonsense? He came on TO APOLOGIZE TO LETTERMAN!

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Typical crybaby Republican responses from Palin. But I do find it out that when they heard "sex" and "Palin's daughter" in the same sentence they instantly think of the 14 year-old. Yea, bit creepy there.

Fantastic defense by Letterman.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Taken at face value, I place the guilt sqarely on the Palins. They inferred a far more tasteless joke than Letterman implied. They gotta get their minds out of the gutter! And their own child, no less...

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Every analyst I've listened to in the past day agrees that the Palins are enjoying building this up so that she continues to get recognition.

It's an old game. Say what you like about me, good or bad but just be sure you spell my name right.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Doesn't seem like they inferred it. The jokes Letterman made were about older dudes famous for sleeping with under aged girls.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Nevermind my last comment. Blogoyavich was famous for getting busted in a prostitute ring, nothing to do with underaged girls that I know of.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Um... no.

Blagojevich: former governor of Illinois. Ousted for attempting to sell the senate seat left open after Obama won the presidency.

Spitzer: former governor of New York. Resigned after being busted in a prostitution ring.

They're both moronic slimeballs, so I can see how you could get the two confused.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
I agree with what's been said, and I think Dave said some true things about the issue. However, when Dave made the joke: "One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez", Palin was in NY with her 14-year-old daughter, Willow.

So, the joke seems to be about the daughter she was in NY with, no? The 14-yr-old one she was actually at the Yankee game with?

I completely agree that minors are off-limits to media mockery. But I know the humor comes from Bristol, the eighteen-year-old. It's a tricky thing. I feel guilty for finding the joke so humorous.

I think this link to The Hater at the Onion AV Club sums up the doublespeak quite well:

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Ya the Palins are pretty silly. But the joke wasn't funny and was pedophelic. Need to come up with some better material Letterman.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
A. Actually a couple of them were pretty decent. But, with many things, humor is relative.

B. Again, the pedophelia was inferred by those that using this entire episode to promote their own agenda. I'd say she needs to get stuffed, but then again, I don't want to see anymore Palin's in this world.

C. Do you think Letterman really writes his own jokes? I doubt he crafts a single one.

D. Most people that enjoy Letterman know that they are going to get some boner jokes. But Letterman knows they are real boners too. That's part of the charm of him. Also, an appreciation for the silly. It's ALWAYS been that way. So, for someone to tell him to get new jokes after 20+ years on tv, well, I don't see you on tv, do I? Exactly.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
Whether it is funny or not to you is pretty irrelevant. To call it "pedophelic" when she has a daughter that WAS knocked up, and a baseball player and governor who are known for indiscretions, well if not funny it's still spot on right. They're righteous indignation is absurd, and to give them even a moment of airtime pisses me off. David is right. Hearing the jokes repeated the girl Willow didn't come into mind. Why you ask? B/c it was the 18 year old that got knocked up! THAT is the thing that the whole country knows! Do people say to Dave Chappelle "well Dave, not all white people talk that why so this is truly in bad taste"? If they do, they are tools, and should be derided by not only their friends and family but all of society for being such. Who cares if it was Willow that was actually at the game? It's a J.O.K.E.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
The right wing excels at phony indignation. They are very good at finding the least flattering interpretation that can be twisted out of someone's words, and asserting with dead earnestness that that is exactly what they meant to say by it (cf. "lipstick on a pig"). It's one of their favorite tactics.

Re: Letterman: Dave Discusses Sarah Palin
No one has brought up the fact that these jokes were a calculated effort to create controversy and steal ratings from Conan O'Brien. I believe that he knew they were controvertial when he wrote them, or at least when he approved them, because, as some one said earlier, it's highly unlikely he wrote these jokes all by himself. Whether the Palins are in on it or not is debatable, I guess. I don't think they are personally. But I think that Dave knew what he was doing when he made the jokes in the first place, and I think he knows what he's doing by keeping the subject alive.
