Is she poking fun at the advertising firms for using effective techniques to woo female customers, or is she arguing that their techniques are ineffective?

I can't believe she gets away with this on television. Undercutting advertisers on an ad-supported medium seems like a major no-no.

I think what she's doing is dragging the techniques out onto the exam table to point them out in a humorous way. Of course they work, but in order to be effective they need to play on the subconscious of the viewer.
By examining them consciously, which is what the advertisers do when they create them, she's putting out entertaining education and making it stick. Advertisers keep manipulating people, but at least a few more people have better psychological defenses, after seeing this stuff.

OR, for the men, you can just give milk to your girlfriend and tell her if she drinks it she'll stop being so cranky all the time and will look prettier too!
