Wow, good find on that article. These guys actually sound sincere in their apology. That's a breath of fresh air.

Re: The Chasers: Make a Realistic Wish Foundation
These clowns have sincerely apologised in the past and then have fallen back into the groove of old and familiar habits.
The problem is that they can no longer anonymously execute a prank or a set-up due to the fact that they are so notirious. As a result, they have resorted to 'shock value' in order to score a few cheap laughs.
Pathetic really.

Re: The Chasers: Make a Realistic Wish Foundation
My housemate works for the company who put that on the news section of their site and we are huge fans of Chaser and personally. I've loved their stuff ever since they were doing a show called CNNNN, which I think was a lot better than the current show. So it was just a giant fluke really.
This was the first time that I had seen the clip as it was removed before it was put online on the official station site.
I think their apology was sincere, most of the time they do good work in comedy, but when you're trying to push the envelope sometimes you fuck up.
Yeah they made a tasteless joke and it was really bad, but fuck the ABC (very different to the US ABC) for their knee-jerk reaction! They are funded by tax dollars, so let the people decide if they don't want to tune in next week or not, don't make the decision based on a few angry posters on your website. The abc is supposed to be above all that popularism crap! If they'd been given the opportunity, I'm sure the team would have apologised on the show, but it's unlikely to happen now that they are off for a week.
Bad jokes happen in comedy, but what the ABC has done in response is far worse.

Re: The Chasers: Make a Realistic Wish Foundation
You are right, what they did was terrible; they only suspended the show for two weeks. This is neither here nor there.
One quote from the skit states that the foundation 'helps thousands of kids to lower their extravagance and selfishness,' how does this constitute humour I am prompted to ask?
With regards to their 'apology' as it were, Janita Friend has cited that they called to explain the skit not apologise. They are as unabashed as always. Next time, it will be the same thing when they have stomped upon another group's sensitivities.
It's simply not good enough to go out and make a sick an utterly base joke and then throw your hands up and say 'my bad.'
I love irreverent humour such as what is seen in quality (my opinion I admit) satirical shows such as Good News Week, it's just that the Chasers have missed the mark for some time and now they have really stepped in it - a mistake that prompted 50,000 viewers in Sydney to switch off during the skit.
It would seem that the taxpayers have indeed spoken - now the ABC needs to develop some gumption and do what is right or at least take a bloody stand one way or the other.

I don't think so

That's 0.23% of the Australian population. Numbers that are just thrown out there like that without showing relevance to the number of people actually watching or the number of people who would normally switch off during the same time limits that they gave these numbers, are pointless.

Re: The Chasers: Make a Realistic Wish Foundation
No "worse" than the dying kid skit on Chapelle Show.
It wasn't especially funny but it wasn't offensive, either. Unless you're one of those people who have to take everything personal.

Re: The Chasers: Make a Realistic Wish Foundation
It is so sad the Chaser guys have fallen so far. The new season is just awful; cheap nasty jokes on normal trusting people in candid camera segments, and now this. If they were going for the black comedy angle they should've gone all or nothing, either despicably outrageous or not do it at all. This falls somewhere in between and it sucks.
