Feathers were falling right onto him, he was looking up the whole time, and he didn't get out of the way or even try to push him off.

Regarding the publicity, I'm not sure what you mean. The incident was of course staged, but that doesn't mean Eminem was a willing participant.
Yeah I saw the feathers and I agree there is a good chance he was in on it. This wouldn't be the first time Baron Cohen had staged a skit with a celeb and made it look real. But I can't be certain as it probably won't do anything positive for Eminem's career, being publicly embarrassed like that. I wanna hear a response from him as that will more than likely give it away.

Sacha Baron Cohen's MO is the bait and switch; getting people to agree to participate in something (and getting that agreement in writing), while omitting certain key details. According to some rumors, Eminem was aware that Bruno would be descending from the ceiling and landing in his lap... They just neglected to mention which end would be up.

I think a lot of what he says is clearly humor said just to be outrageous and shock. I think it's easy to hear what you refer to as hate speech but then ignore or not listen to the parts where it becomes clear that he's willing to say just about anything to get a reaction:

Eminem has made a career of highlighting how damaged and fucked up he is, not how tough he is. Laughing off a mildly humiliating prank at a public awards ceremony takes a depth of character that he's never claimed to have.
