My favorite protest sign from this was, "My two moms can beat up your ten wives."
Re: Takei: California Court Fails Prop. 8
While Takei speaks concisely and effectively about the issue at hand, but the editing of this video is clearly disrespectful. What was with the blurb about the ring in the middle? "Hey, let's punctuate his serious message with a clip of frou-frou gay aesthetics." How can the the powerful sentiment he expresses, that of insisting on equality at the risk of personal loss (calling for decisive action which may lead to even his rights to be repealed), be taken seriously when every sentence is buffered between random clips from the editing room floor? Irresponsible reporting at best, though more likely something more sinister. Am I way off the mark?
Re: Takei: California Court Fails Prop. 8
Agreed. "Look at the Geighs! They're not like us."
Re: Takei: California Court Fails Prop. 8
I disagree. Although the editing seems a bit lazy and by-the-numbers, if this were a heterosexual couple, would you have thought twice about it?

Re: Takei: California Court Fails Prop. 8
So the dramatic Star Trek clip at the end was entirely in keeping with serious journalism?

Yeah the production was completely unprofessional. Possibly too unprofessional, who knows.

Re: Takei: California Court Fails Prop. 8
George's argument about the Supreme Court's view on the validity of his marriage is nothing more than what happens a billion times over in the court system. A ruling is made but doesn't effect prior decisions in the matter. It's a technical matter, not a thumbs up form the Federal Government regarding human rights. To say otherwise is ignorant IMO.

Re: Takei: California Court Fails Prop. 8
Yeah, the "decision to be indecisive" bit was pretty weak rhetoric. In this recent 8-1 ruling upholding Proposition 8, the court said there was nothing unconstitutional about a bigoted constitutional amendment. They also ruled 9-0 that Prop 8 couldn't touch the marriages finalized before Prop 8's implementation. It's the very same California Supreme Court which ruled last year that his marriage could go forward.
Courts don't decide what's right. They decide what's legal.
