Fuck yeah, Jesse!
Someone get this man a cape.
Someone get this man a cape.

Couldn't have said it better. This made me tear up. Finally somebody who wasn't afraid to say what should be said, even the audience who was cheering for him went silent on these points, but dammit that man spoke up:
"We only seem to waterboard muslems"
"I'm ashamed of my country"
A cape would not be overstating his selfless bravery.

Enhanced interrogation : torture :: erectile dysfunction : impotence. It's the same thing, just rebranded, repackaged, and made nicer for Americans to talk about.
Elisabeth Hasselbeck doesn't even digest the talking points she's emailed before she regurgitates them back up. I can't get mad at her, because she doesn't seem to understand what she's arguing for or against.

I am mad at her for her roots, though. There is no excuse for that shit. Girl, you knew your ass was going to be on TV today, and you look like you were going to meet a friend to go get Pinkberry and a mani-pedi. What the fuck? Get your weave bleached or wear a wig. Inexcusable. You make the scrilla, so polish that turd.
Re: Ventura vs Hasselbeck: Torture, The View
These people (defenders of torture) really need to start thinking about their legacy. 9/11 really screwed us Americans up. We're a damaged people who have been acting crazy, but we're beginning to heal. Our sense of moral perspective is coming back, and those who don't stop defending torture as if it were a sane policy are going to be stuck with their statements for the rest of their lives.
Re: Ventura vs Hasselbeck: Torture, The View
Are we really that pussified that it's taken us this long to "heal" from a mediocre tragedy?
3000 people died, OK, that's sad, most of them were stock brokers, ok that's a lot less sad. These are the same people that were profiting off the economic bubbles, gutting our country from within, whom if were alive today we'd be chasing with pitch folks and torches.

Re: Ventura vs Hasselbeck: Torture, The View
Gotta disagree with you here, Meltingpenguin, and strongly.
I don't give a fuck who they were, it matters the same that they died.
Same with Oklahoma, and civilians in Iraq who die in bomb blasts or when mortars go off, or in Gaza. Same with civilian deaths anywhere in the world. I don't care what country they live in.
When people who are not involved in some shit and are not prepared for it, caught unawares, get taken out, it is way fucked. Way fucked.

Re: Ventura vs Hasselbeck: Torture, The View
That's true, but how many Stock brokers on wallstreet knowingly trade peoples welfare, and clean environments away for a buck? Cancer causing factories producing the good for the companies they trade. There's rivers in South America that will kill you in a day if you swim in them due to gold production. Is making money on killing millions slowly any better then killing a few thousand quickly?
I'm not condoning violence, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of Americans complaining that they suffered through 9-11, other countries have been through much worse, and have exacted far less revenge.
Imagine having two atomic bombs dropped on you.

What is truly sad is that our "healing" tends to entail blowing the sh** out of muslim civilians somewhere else in the world.

Re: Ventura vs Hasselbeck: Torture, The View
Right wingers are way off the mark on this whole torture issue in much the same way left wingers are way off the mark with gun rights. Who are these right wingers trying to fool by calling waterboarding an advanced interrogation technique. You and I and everyone knows that waterboarding is torture, even if you don't want to admit it. More like advanced torture technique.

Re: Ventura vs Hasselbeck: Torture, The View
To me, forcing someone to withstand the sensation of drowning is the same as forcing them to feel like they're burning to death. Even if there is no physical trauma there is no justification for it. If I found myself in a situation where I had to waterboard another in order to save lives would I do it? I don't know. But I do know that I would expect to receive the punishment for torture as a result.
