The National Film Board of Canada, in association with the Cannes Short Film Corner and partner YouTube, welcomes you to this NFB competition, now in its fifth year.
Its your turn to choose. Internet votes will decide the best film, and the winner will be announced at Cannes on May 21. The prize: an HD MINI-DV camera and a mobile studio including laptop and editing suite.

The last piece of birthday cake gets a bigger meaning than life.
Born in 1975 in Finland, Teemu Nikki has been working in film for the past decade. In 1998 and 1999 he worked as assistant cameraman on several films including The Bridge to Lelle (V?gen till Lelle), The Real McCoy and Fire Eater (Tulennielij?). He also worked as an electric on History is Made at Night (Historiaa tehd??n ?isin) and A Northern Boy (Lapinpoika).
Between 2000 and 2006, he worked on a wide variety of music videos and TV commercials. His first short was The Opportunist (Menestyj?) in 2006, which won the Youth Jury Prize at the Tampere International Short Film Festival in Finland. A Mate (Kaveri) followed in 2007 and won the Special Jury Award at the Seattle International Film Festival. His latest short is entitled Legacy (Perint?). On all three films, Nikki served as writer, producer, director and editor.
