I'm surprised they got any work done; I wouldn't be able to stop jumping up and down and screaming "dude! We're on the fucking Moon! Ah ha ha haaaaaaa!"

Re: Apollo 11: To the Sea of Tranquility
The moon revolves around itself exactly as fast as it revolves around the earth, thus constantly facing the earth with its same face and making the "earthrise" you saw, impossible.
Just a theory, though, could very well be off.

Re: Apollo 11: To the Sea of Tranquility
Was it an Earth-rise or were they on that particular part of the Moon? And wasn't that shot in transit in the LEM as it came around the Moon?

Re: Apollo 11: To the Sea of Tranquility
My guess is those photos are presented in reverse chronological order as the LEM descends to the surface. You can see from the terrain that the movement is in the vertical direction.
Re: Apollo 11: To the Sea of Tranquility
Some of the pictures of earthrise were taken from satellites orbiting the moon. If you were standing on the front side of the moon, the earth would always be dead overhead.
And no, the landings weren't fake. Neil Armstrong left a panel of mirrors on the moon, and we can hit it with lasers and have the light reflect back to earth. This lets us find the distance to the moon within a few centimeters!
