Re: Porndemic
Jaxon's worst nightmare: there's no way he can remove the word "porn" from this link. Maybe he could edit the link's description, but the title, ah! the title. Adult Filmdemic just doesn't roll off the tongue like Porndemic, eh? But he may be in luck, because I suspect this one won't be long up for grabs on the WWW.
Re: Porndemic
Au contraire. There are quite a few CBC episodes that stand the test of time.
Porn, porn, porn, porn, porn. Ah, I feel better.
Porn, porn, porn, porn, porn. Ah, I feel better.

Re: Porndemic
Hah! Someone did edit the link's description, removing the word "porn" from it -- and replacing it with "accessable" [sic]. Jaxon, was that you? If you are trying to please my wicked sense of humor, you have succeeded. At the same time, however, you have managed to make my eyes roll.
Re: Porndemic
I watched this when it aired.
It was a Thursday.
And it was in the 7:00pm timeslot.
Lightly blurred hardcore scenes and full frontal nudity at 7pm on local TV. Gotta love Canada.
High five, CBC!

Re: Porndemic
This is a pretty objective look at how porn is affecting people and society.
Re: Porndemic
It's hypocritical of society to deride a class of "entertainers" and "entertainment" when so many people are patrons of it.
Adult performers deserve more respect. If porn wasn't viewed as "bad" by society as a whole, then perhaps there would be much less abuse in the industry.
It's odd how so many show contempt, as opposed to appreciation, for something they know they indulge in from time to time.

Re: Porndemic
The simple, crude fact is that none of us would be here without some fucking.

Re: Porndemic
I don't see the problem. For many (most?) people, part of the appeal of porn is the slight inappropriateness of it. Make porn socially acceptable and it's uninteresting.
Plus, with the absurd ease in which it can be attained, what are you complaining about? I doubt performer abuse is because of lack of government regulation.

Re: Porndemic
I wasn't advocating government regulation. Just wider social acceptance of it without all the negative stigma.
I think porn is pretty interesting weather it's socially acceptable or not :)

Re: Porndemic
What I'm saying is that for something like porn, negative stigma is a plus. It's like if everybody was comfortable with swearing then swear words would hold less meaning.
It's debatable, though.

Re: Porndemic
The fact is that the primary medium by which pornography is conveyed changes the nature of it in ways that can very easily damage physical human connection, and you can't argue otherwise. People choose, most likely based upon their own negative experiences, to take that to an extreme and antagonize the makers and actors of porn.
The solution to this real problem is to foster an open dialogue about it, which this documentary does. We treat it as a "private thing," something that other people are not allowed to probe, and in this manner usage of pornography is allowed to develop into a destructive habit. It's worse when adolescents and teens become hooked, because they're robbing themselves of a type of very basic human connection for which we are evolved, otherwise known as love.
It's like a nightmare from a Kafka novella, where many of us find ourselves standing starkly naked within a different kind of world, where the nature of our relationships are changing due to technology, sometimes for the worse, and we need to be careful. If anyone's insulting "entertainers," they probably have problems about which they are too afraid to talk, therefore they irrationally lash out at the object of their day to day torture, and it's sad.

Re: Porndemic
At the start of this "documentary" (read: editorial of a pissed off woman) you can hear her almost sigh as she thinks back to the days when censorship was easier. Ah, for the days when it was easier for other people to control what you could and could not see. Sweet, sweet control.
People spending billions on porn? You're right, that is out of control. We need to teach these younger generations about P2P. Oh, and spyware! We should have a sort of online sex education so people know how to practice safe one-handed web-surfing.
"I didn't have anyone to tell me it was wrong." I lol'd. If only there were some sort of internet shame-bot, to constantly remind us that sex is bad!
Upselling is not a porn invention, Jason... that's from retail. But he makes it up with a great pun later on. "They'll find their credit card and whip it out."
"Why should I be chasing something that's going on in Moscow?" Why should you care at all is a better question.
God... I have so much to say about these people.

Re: Porndemic
kinky acts are becoming main stream,... so rather then celebrate technology helping to ushering in a new sexual revolution, the entire thing is given a negative spin.
Typical hyperbole media swill. It's the way of the world I suppose, new things are always scary to the establishment, with their celebrated repression, and nostalgic ideals.
Why don't they do a story on some of the real problems? You know, the ones their sponsors are causing... Guess I just answered my own question there,....

Re: Porndemic
I remember the first time I heard about porn being on the "internet" It was on a media expose show like this one, but in the early 90's. I couldn't have been older then 12. That night began three month struggle to convince my parents that we needed a modem.
Re: Porndemic
Funny how they even used porn to gain viewer for this very documentary. If they made this documentary with no images would anyone watch it? Doubt it.

Re: Porndemic
I'd give the doc about 7/10. Good that it touched on several aspects, so-so that it didnt delve deeper. Pun.
I was surprised about the missing spin on the religious take, though at the same time, relieved. I would have felt ashamed. My first experiences masturbating involved imagining sexual interpretaions of bible stories from the Old Testament, while mother thought I was praying in the closet!

Re: Porndemic
How silly I was to think that, because this clip was billed as being a documentary, it would maintain some sort of journalistic or scientific impartiality or neutrality.
Instead, I found it to have a decidedly alarmist perspective. Regardless, it was a decent clip, though I found myself chuckling and shaking my head (no pun intended) at certain times.
It sure would be great for someone to put together an "answer video" to this clip. One that mentions things like how many women actually enjoy porn (and will admit it), and how most young boys found ways to get ahold of dirty magazines before the internet or cellphones even existed, etc.
