I wonder how many takes were required for the studio cut. That's like "the rockets' red glare".

I know I couldn't do it but once in a million tries. Then again, I couldn't carry a tune if it had a handle.

I believe that's Luther Vandross singing back-up (first singer on the left in shadow). He was touring with Bowie in 1974 and co-wrote "Fascination" on the Young Americans album. Interesting pairing!
