Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
It's the self-satisfied, sanctimonious giggling that destroys Blackwell's assertion that he's Christian. He literally cannot debate without laughing at someone else who intelligently and respectfully disagrees with him.
Blackwell acts like a child. He's prideful, ignorant. And merely a Pharisee standing on the street corner praying for money.
"I'm not going to let you bogart me." Uh...what?
If people think Spam is posting "atheist" clips, they truly don't know their faith. If anything, these clips should push those of faith to turn their back on the false corporate prophets and look to Jesus.
Spam may or may not like this, but I believe those who actually live the Christian life (and not merely speak it through false lips) would support his choice in clips.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Oh, I'm not offended by religious folks or their beliefs. Not even pietistic ones.
And hey, if someone is offended by a clip like this, please post a comment stating as much. I'm a big boy and won't suffer a bruised ego. We've had several respectful discussions with Christians who visit here.
Blackwell (Mr. I will deliver Ohio to Bush 43) did have one good point and that is how there are always periodic fluctuations in the numbers. How does that saying go about a broken clock being right a certain number of times each day?

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
What I find amazing is why a Christian would care about numbers. The Bible says that cramped and narrow is the road leading to salvation. If anything, Christians should take pride in being the minority.
Jesus also told his followers to be no part of this world. For Christians to involve themselves in politics is a total lack of faith. If a person believes in God, why worry about politics? If a person believes God is going to fix everything, why force others to follow your beliefs.
I was brought up believing that religions are doomed to fail. So I take solace in this information. Thanks for the post.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Looking to politics as a means to forward one's agenda is precisely what the FRC is all about.
Interestingly, not all of their positions find me on the opposite side (http://www.frc.org/issues). For example, parental rights, pornography and portions of their stance on religious liberty. OTOH, abstinence-only programs, gay marriage and the like clearly have these people in the stone age and refusing to come out of their caves.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
At 8:06 Hitchens calls Blackwell Mr. Barnacle, I think.
Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
The guest host substituting for Chris Matthews was Mike Barnicle.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Ken Blackwell said the christian moral foundation promotes free market enterprise. Maybe I'm ignorant here but I'm pretty sure the bible doesn't say anything about the free market enterprise. Yep he's a republican which is very un-jesus like.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Pfft. I think you havent read the bible:
Leviticus 3:10
And thou shalt maketh markets free for all to take enterprise upon thy fellow man. Taketh his money in the most clever ways. For, lo, thy lord needs he tythe. Because if you dont pay up, vengence shall be his. He will smacketh your mouth agape. Heaven will close its gates on you beofre you can get in, and you will have horrible acne and NO cumly women shall decend upon your loins. Amen.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Hitchens is quick and great at arguing. If you are going to have him on you have to have a quick, feisty opponent for him. Mr.Blackwell isn't the right guy at all, so it makes for an extra good clip. :)

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Blackwell by name...Black very well by avoiding the damn question.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
Blackwell just turns me off with the giggling and acting like Hitchens won't let him talk. When he talks it's automatic rubish.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
He stutters as if he's trying to talk over someone even when he's not trying to talk over someone.

Re: Hardball: The End of Christian America?
As usual Hitchens shows his mastery of the subject and his opponent, in this case Ken Blackwell, demonstrates only his ignorance.....how embarassing for the believers that so many of their spokesmen are so ignorant of the issues; and how extraordinary that Hitchens, a recently naturalized American citizen, has to teach Blackwell about basic U.S. history and the constitution -which is explicitly secular, not Christian.
