www.youtube.com/qtvQ was visited by country-pop band The Boxmasters. The Boxmasters's biggest claim to fame is that their singer is Oscar-winner Billy Bob Thornton.

Wow, what an ubber douche bag. If he doesn't want people to know he's an oscar winning movie star, he should wear a mask and go by a different name on stage.
Let see how much press he'd get then.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
What a dick.
Poor Jian having to put up with that crap. He never answered a single question straight. He came to studio Q not even ready to play with his band. Wanker.
Hey Billy Bob.
What do you call a guy that likes to hang out with musicians?
A drummer!

Goddamn he's being a Douche... anyone else get the feeling the other guys were embarassed to be there during that interview?
Seriously, I'd have been out of the studio and out of the band if he pulled that shit and I was one of the other members.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
I think you guys might be overreacting a bit. Sure, he handled it in an unorthodox way, but Jian was just as guilty if not more so of being a dick as well.
If your producer tells you to not talk about something, there's usually a reason. Billy Bob had a great point - "there's enough context already." People know who Thornton is, you don't have to say "Hey it's an actor in a band, isn't that odd."

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
No, they are not overreacting. First of all, it's one thing to tell your interviewer in advance what you'd like the interview to focus on, but it's quite another to ban them from even mentioning certain topics at all. That was a total diva move right out of the gate.
Secondly, as you say, people already know who Thornton is, so why *not* take five seconds to mention his past career? What possible difference can it make? What's the point of pretending that he's not the same person that people already know? Who does he think he's fooling?
It would be one thing if the interviewer had asked a bunch of questions about acting and movies instead of music. But he didn't. He briefly mentioned it in the introduction, and that was the end of it (or it would have been, if Billy Bob hadn't started acting like a baby).
To wreck the entire interview over something like this is unbelievably petty (no pun intended), not to mention unfair to his bandmates. The interviewer did nothing wrong, and was actually much more respectful than Thornton deserved.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
Does this remind you at all of the whole Joaquin Phoenix thing?
Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
I'm reading something a little different from this. It looks to me that Bill's pulling a stunt for publicity (and partly for fun). He's trying to be difficult in order to see what happens when he doesn't play by the rules. Like the Crispin Glover incident, he's trying to push the boundaries. For attention I guess?
He's still acting like a child , but I think he's conscious of it. Like Andy Kaufman without the genius quotient.
That's my guess anyhow. He could just as easily be simply an ass.

I saw some extremely drunk people behaving this way. That's another option to consider.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
I think that was a fantastic interview, so interesting! I only wish the interviewer had engaged Billy even more.
I also think what ltgalloway says could be true, although the reactions seemed to genuine to be faked... then again he is an actor.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
His band mates look like they want to crawl under a rock and die every time Billy Bob opens his mouth.
I think Billy Bob's demeanor is part publicity stunt mixed heavily with the ego of a prick who thinks he's better than the men he's sitting at the table with. I have to give points to the interviewer for sticking it out though. I would have told Billy Bob to go fuck himself and get the hell out of my studio.

Billy Bob acted like an asshole. There is no deeper meaning or anything, he just acted like an asshole.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
Yeah I'd say the douche without the glasses in the band too. Not only does he evade all questions but he lashes out without real direction.
So matter of fact Thorton. Wow, surprising. Does he hate Canadians or something?
Would have loved to hear the song at the end though.

AP is reporting he canceled his Canadian tour and was "booed" out of Canada as a result of the interview.

Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
Breaking news: Following this interview, the rest of the Boxmasters Canadian tour has been canceled. Willie Nelson's website says that one of the band members and several of their crew have the flu, but Canadians are really pissed off about being called "mashed potatoes and no gravy".
Re: Billy Bob Thornton 'Blow Up' on Q TV
Real country musicians don't need a publicist "instructing" the DJ on what he can or cannot say like some trained dog.
And uh...no one in the music industry is creating music like you'd making, Billy Bob? Not in the last 30 years? No one? Really?
Uh... the Knitters, maybe? Dwight Yoakam? (huh...wasn't he in that one movie...) Or how about the Old 97s, Beachwood Sparks, Loose Salute, Supersuckers, Eddie Spaghetti, Billy Bragg, Uncle Tupelo, Wilco, Son Volt, Jayhawks, David Allan Coe, Elmer, Lisa Marr, etc etc.
Just a few of the many bands who had to make it on their own right. Not because they had a famous member.

That reporter should've let it go way sooner.
"I said I didn't want to talk about that shit"
"OK. I won't"
done deal.
