Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
A very good watch but I will repeat myself once again.
Electric vehicles are not non-polluting. Unless the source of the charge in the batteries comes from solar or wind, and even then the building and transportation of the collection units burns fossil fuels. More than likely, the source of electricity is what? Coal. Not clean. Not carbon neutral.
The next time someone tells you that the electric car doesn't pollute, ask them if they sweep the dirt under their rug and claim that it's gone.

Thank you for the effective demonstration of the straw man fallacy.

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
A straw man argument is when you refute a lame hypothetical criticism of your own invention, instead of addressing a genuine, non-lame criticism. Everything Spam said is true. And not particularly straw-man-ish.
People in this video were saying the car puts out no air pollution. While that's technically true, it's not practically true. Each time the car us operated, air pollution occurs (at a power plant somewhere).
However, just because these zero-emission vehicles aren't honestly zero-emission, doesn't mean they're just as bad as any other car. We can clean up the way we generate electricity next.

Thanks for your response.
I will give the electric car a little credit in that it is ideal for densely populated urban environments. IOW, minimizing the layers of brown smog that hang over most of our large cities.
Can we as a civilization move to cleanER sources of energy? It's as much as in our individual will as it is any of our elected officials. Germany is a world leader in solar these days and not entirely due to tax credits.

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
To be fair, this guy is doing more that any of us to popularize an important component in a clean energy production and consumption system. He's glamorizing the consumption end of the loop, so that when it comes down to it, people will want to support the production end.
And like he said, it isn't just greenhouse gases that are emitted, but highly toxic partially combusted organics that cause cancer and respiratory disease. Let's not put too much weight on the fact that it isn't completely "green."

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
That's similar to the infomercial where they show all the pollutants that go into an energy saving light bulb. I think it was posted on this site.

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
Electric cars 'may' pollute as an effect of using power from polluting power plants. But ultimately this is a good thing since it gives politicos a single (tho still powerful) and easier target for regulating.

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
No one ever talks about all the pollution that it takes to create those batteries or where they go when they are used up.
It is not always about the finished product, but what it took to make it what it is too.

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
I agree. I think we need a much much more efficient battery. Until free energy is found, I think it's all still a tit for tat game.

Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
Stan Oshinsky invented a cheap powerful long lasting Nickel-metal hydride battery. The patent was bought by GM ignored for two years, then sold to Exxon, where it now lay buried.
Re: Worlds Fastest Street Legal Electric Car
Much like the powerball hydrogen system which was purchased by Mercedes Benz years ago.
