This piece is wonderful... And totally right on.
Re: Natural World: A Farm for the Future
Little doubt in my mind that you'd like this. But I wasn't playing to my audience so much as I have been transformed in my thinking somewhat.
20+ years ago when I was renting a house in the southern climes, I had a garden and grew lots of my own fruits and vegetables. My tomatoes were far more tasty than anything that could be bought in any supermarket or even at a farmer's mart. Sadly, today in an urban environment, I am unable to even grow mushrooms. My terrace faces almost north and gets very little sun (less than two hours in the summer mornings, none in the winter).

Oh, Spam, I wish I could do more to help with your window boxes. This'll have to do for now:

Cute song, but it has its basis in truth.
If I can go off on a tangent (who, me?), I have learned to like the little grape tomatoes. A really sweet flavor and unlike other varieties. When cooking, I find the plum (or roma) tomatoes to be best because they have far more meat to them than even the beefsteak ones.

This is the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life, hands down. I would love to see more scientific data on a forest garden, like long term stats and exactly where do you draw the line between how much you let "man" control "nature" through agriculture
