The animated 5:34 intro of the movie The Watchmen...

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
I don't know what to think of this. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the Dylan song seemed out of place with the theme.
Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
I thought it was just about perfect... and I've read the comic (novel-schmovel, we called 'em all comics back in my day) a few times in the last 20 years.

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
Seconded. I haven't seen the movie yet, but this intro montage with Dylan was just a brilliant way to introduce the complex mythology of Watchmen...
(Yeah, I've also read it a few times over the decades....)

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
I thought this was the best part of the movie. And I agree with the music being almost perfect.
The rendition of Hallelujah didn't really do it for me, though.

That was Leonard Cohen singing his own song.

Oh, wow. Thanks. I thought Jeff Buckley was the original. =\ fail.

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
Alan Moore "spits venom" on the new movie. Of Hollywood, he says that they "take an idea, bowdlerize it, blow it up, make it infantile and spend $100 million to give people a brief escape from their boring and often demeaning lives at work. It's obscene and it's offensive."
Moore actually believes Watchmen to be "unfilmable" because of the techniques used to tell the story. To be honest, the idea of a Watchmen movie sounds appealing. However, given that Watchmen is very obviously a purely commercial enterprise, and that Alan Moore disapproves of the resultant adulteration of the content, why should I see it? Why should I give a lesser artist and his bully my money when it's Moore who has done the lion's share of the footwork? I don't buy it, and the music is corny.
The comic is dead silent, so why shouldn't a movie, for once in Hollywood history, not ejaculate immature musical cues into every scene and transition? Give the audience some time to actually ponder the implications the movie has for their bankrupt and destitute humanity?
If Moore made the original, and the concept is his, intellectually, then I ought to consider when he disapproves of the profitable re-execution of his concept.

True.
Or you could make up your own mind as to whether or not you want to see it without quoting his interviews about the movie.

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
I'm not letting Alan Moore decide for me, but I'm considering the nature of what is motivating film production, as well as Moore's thoughts about what makes Watchmen what it is. Moore originally wrote the graphic novel to address aspects of American society and he used creative artistic devices to convey that. Watchmen is being produced because some asshole wants to make some easy money off of our tendency towards entertainment that offers little resistance. By just seeing the movie because it's called Watchmen and features characters similar to those in the comic, I am letting the movie industry decide for me, and just throwing my money at them. I guess I didn't get that across clearly enough, but thanks for missing the point, anyways. If you actually read my comment, I quote Moore and then only "consider" what he has to say.

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
Moore's thoughts have nothing to do with me, that's for sure. He has good reasons to be bitter about Hollywood, and it just seems like he's sticking to his guns.
He publicly disassociated himself with V For Vendetta right before it came out, but I thought it was great.
Go easy on Zach Snyder, jeesh! Directors can be and are artists too, aside from the business of making blockbusters. If you aren't up for a gaudy, loud, and explosively stylistic film, then you haven't seen his last couple. :D
I haven't seen it yet, and I'm sure it's highly flawed. I also am glad that it's finally done...some of us geeksters have been literally waiting two decades for it.

How do you make up your mind about weather you want to see something before you see it, without looking to trailers, reviews and other such clues. Perhaps you are recommending ESP?

Shoot opened a clone tab earlier and then accidentally posted it too. I can understand not being able to delete posts in order to keep the thread logical, but wouldn't a 60 second time limit on deletes/edits be better?

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
I've seen it twice now and reread the GN before both viewings. I felt some of the changes made for a much tighter, more coherent ending. Cloned psychic brain stuck inside a giant fake alien squid? I mean, really. Come on...
Also, some of the songs people are bitching about were actually said to be playing during the exact moments in the GN - or they were inferred.
Many of the shots are detailed reproductions of panels and whole paragraphs of dialog are pulled from the page, verbatim. The casting was on mark and the FX are great.
I just don't get most of the crap critiques I've read. I understand everyone's predisposed to hate this movie, no matter who made it or when, but it's just not that bad people. Seriously. I really enjoyed it except for the awkward sex scene... which ends in exactly the same cheesy way (jet of flame).

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
This is an amazing way to begin a movie. Probably one of my most favorite intro's ever. The Dylan really got me as well as the slow motion style of the old Minutemen. Incredible!

Re: Watchmen [Intro] 5:34
Agreed, good way to show the history and to give it a nostalgic feel.
Did anyone else notice that Alan Moore, the creator, isn't in the credits, lol. He's been bitching about this film since it was anounced.

Oh, and the movie was great, even though I read the graphic novel many years prior and then again just before the movie was released.
