Ted Talks: Dan Ariely: Why We Think it's Ok to Cheat and Steal (Sometimes) >>
Capt. Charles Moore of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation first discovered the Great Pacific Garbage Patch -- an endless floating waste of plastic trash. Now he's drawing attention to the growing, choking problem of plastic debris in our seas.

Re: Ted Talks: Captain Charles Moore on the Seas of Plastic
This is why humans will eventually end up destroying their own race like a cancer on the planet. Not just this of course, but many other reasons. We've grown accustomed to lifestyles our planet can't handle and nobody wants to give up any of their luxuries to save a few fish or birds. Multiply those times millions and billlions and what will be left in a hundred years?
Re: Ted Talks: Captain Charles Moore on the Seas of Plastic
Humans will make it through, in lesser numbers, eventually we'll evolve into something else. The earth will survive. Most of the life systems will die out and/or change as they always have.
Even a full scale nuclear war couldn't ruin earth for more then a few thousand years.

I'm not saying that plastic is good for the environment but I have two quick points. Notice how it's always an artistic rendering of this giant garbage pile. That's because it doesn't exist. http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4132

Maybe that comet'll smash into the earth and boil the ocean's off in a few moments. That'd take care of ALL the plastics in the ocean.
