http://www.outfoxed.org/ How Fox News tries to make it seem like everything is going great in Iraq. As seen in Outfoxed.

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
Is anyone really surprised to learn that Fox News distorts the news to favor their boy Bush by watching this?
Still, it needs to be put out there because so many believe that they really are fair and balanced.

It's good to be able to quantify just how effectively they're distorting the truth with poll numbers and such. But you do have a point in at least the sense that their anti-journalism isn't really news to anyone visiting M&C. I mean, there are some staunch conservatives who visit this site, but I really doubt any of them are among that most ignorant percentage of Americans who still believe we found WMD's in Iraq, etc.

Gotta love the intensive use of "people counting money" footages.

Are you suggesting that Fox News is now more fair and balanced and that this documentary no longer applies?

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
You ignored my response last time under another thread and thus I will ask again. Please describe for us the Iraq war being won.
Is it because there is no insurgency? Is it because the streets of Mosul and Baghdad are safe? Is it because only a dozen coalition troops are needlessly dying each month* (11 in Jan 2009, 16 in Dec 2008, 17 in Nov 2008)?
Is the war over because we are only wasting $10 billion per month in documented military spending in Iraq?
Who says the war is over? You? Some big banner across the bridge of the USS Lincoln?
Are you silent because you are embarrassed?

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
Then I will answer again the same way I did before, since you didn't hear me the first time:
The stable, non-hostile Iraqi government is capable of successfully persecuting terrorists within their midst, rather than supporting them or turning away.
Caracas and Mexico city now have a higher murder rate than Bagdhad. There are suicide bombing muslims in Thailand. But thats not the point.
If you think you lose a war because you spend a lot of money, than we lost every war we ever faught. In fact, as a percentage of America's total wealth in GDP, only the first gulf war was a less expensive war than this one.
More U.S. soldiers are dying in training accidents than in combat, and soon there will be no U.S. combat deaths at all, as the Status of Forces agreement is proceding right on schedule.
If you think this war has been lost, who won?

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
Pay attention. You did not answer before. If you wish to cite when and where you did, please provide supporting documentation.
There was not a presence of al Qaeda in Iraq until this senseless war was started by the past administration and their zealot WHIG.
And you misquote your buddy Roger Hedgecock. He said Baghdad has a higher murder rate than DC (http://mediamatters.org/items/200611300002), not Caracas or Mexico City. But even if any of those were true, murder rate isn't the comparative issue. Ethnic cleansing takes many other forms in our "victory" state of Iraq, such as goon squads and militias within the ranks of the national police force.
Not a single one of you pro-war people has ever defined winning yet claim victory consistently. Not a single one of you in the lot has been consistent with a reason to invade a sovereign country and stir up the hornets' nest. Not a single one of you can admit that it was a grave mistake. Not a single one of you senses any guilt over more American lives lost there than on 9-11-2001. Not a single one of you cares about the costs of over $1 trillion in order to boost the stock price of Halliburton. I don't desire defeat but it came at the hands of those who think like you do because of the naïveté to believe that we would be "welcomed as liberators" and that "oil reserves will pay for that country's reconstruction."
Take those last two quotes from your war heroes and choke on them ever so gently.

Your documentation is here: http://www.milkandcookies.com/comment/237321/ What, did you forget that you replied to it?
The fact that there was no presence of the organization know as Al-qaeda before we invaded proves that there is a globalized enemy that is willing to cross borders in order to kill Americans. They came in and attacked us in Iraq. I'm sure our military would have been satisfied just to remove Saddam Hussein's regime. Oh, and you forgot other Islamist terrorist groups like Jamaat al Islamia or Fedeyeen Saddam or Jamaat al-Furqa or Abu Nidal amonst others whom existed within and were supported by Iraq before 2003.
I don't know who Roger Hedgecock is and I don't care. You don't seem to have any problems with ethnic cleansing or goon squads under Saddam's regime.
I just defined winning. There were 22 reasons the senate cited to invade Iraq - go ask a senator like Joe Biden why THEY haven't been consistent. I won't admit it was a grave mistake because I don't believe it was. All of those Amercans who died in Iraq were killed by Islamic terrorists and fascists and I have a problem with those people. Halliburton's stock is down along with everyone elses. We certainly were WELCOMED as liberators, in the beginning, but everyone gets sick of violence and war when it drags on; imagine if those terrorists who weren't in Iraq decided not to come in and attack coalition forces after the statues fell.
My war heroes are the brave young men and women who volunteered to fight and sacrifice their lives for a just cause, one that they have now succeeded in doing; a victory which you don't care to credit them with.
Oh and YOU didn't answer MY question: If we lost the war, then who won?

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
It's actually very 2004, since that's when "Outfoxed" was released. I think the question is less "Is it dated?" and more "Is it sinking in?"

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
Fox news is certainly biased. No mystery there. But how were they biased in these clips? Were they lying about the statistics they were quoting or about the reconstruction projects? No. They were biased because these reports left out bad news.
Now consider how NPR listeners had a decidedly negative view of the war. The same bias was present, but in the reverse. They didn't lie when they reported on the daily violence. But they always left out reports of progress.
The lesson is that media is biased on all sides and there is no such thing as objective media.
Now that its 2008, we don't hear any news at all coming from the mainstream press regarding Iraq. Why? Becasue its hard to find bad news in Iraq these days.
Lara Logan was sent to Afghanistan because the "protracted unwinnable war" narrative was no longer attainable for CBS in Iraq.
Makes you think, maybe Fox had a point? Were they more forward thinking when they reported that there actually was progress?

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
Painting a run-down school was considered rebuilding by Fox News.
Electricity running better than four hours per day was considered an improving urban infrastructure by Fox News.
Why don't you just leave progress to the progressives?

Re: Outfoxed: Fox News: Everything in Iraq is Great!
All cable news is bullshit. It's just entertainment.
And you cannot "win" Iraq. Only people with limited perception consider this an actual war.
