Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
Hello, Mind Control...
Oddly enough, Rick Warren also urges his sheep to enjoy Lil' Debbie snackcakes.
C'mon, People! Hitler and Jelly Donuts can change the world...

Watch the movie Jesus Camp. The counselors look admirably at the middle eastern youths who are trained to kill for their God at a young age. They 'wish' they could train their children that well. They're trying to out-crazy the other religions.

Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
Oh my goodness, what kind of retards are you? He's saying that Christians should emulate the PASSION of those who followed the monsters Hitler, Stalin and Mao. He wasn't saying to follow Hitler, Stalin and Mao.
Christ preached a very different message than those madmen.
The title of this thread, while accurate grammatically, is completely misleading - and generally a lie meant to deceive the casual viewer of this site.
I'm no fan of Warren, but please - if you're going to focus on Christian hypocrites, why not hit up the Tiltons and Hinns of the world - evil men that do real harm to the people they touch.
Oh, Tilton - that reminds me of this:

and this...

Now THAT is funny.

Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
I think the point is that calling for a level of fanatical dedication so extreme that one is forced to cite Hitler, Stalin, and Mao as predecessors is quite bad enough, regardless of the message.

Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
Really? What about Ghandi, Martin Luther King or the Dalai Lama?
The was only saying that a 'fanatical' devotion (I say true dedication) to something GOOD would be superior to a fanatical devotion to something bad.
You missed the entire point.

Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
Trying to soften it by calling it "true dedication" is disingenuous; Rick Warren himself described it as "radical devotion."
Brainwashed, cult-like zeal is never good, even if it is in the service of an ostensibly "good" message. (Which it always is -- the key word being "ostensibly." No one joins a cult because they think it's evil.)
Furthermore, whether evangelical Christianity is "good" is a matter of considerable debate. The mere fact that this controversy exists should be more than enough to defend this video, but I am also trying to make a more general point.
When a charismatic leader is encouraging people to do "whatever it takes," and he is also the one who is poised to explain to them exactly what "whatever it takes" means, I don't think that expressing concern makes you a "retard," as you so eloquently put it. Not even if that leader is the Dalai Lama.

Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
It would have been better if he'd used those figures as examples.
But the reason why he used such notorious figures is because of the shock value -- it instantly forces his audience to think about those "evil" men, and what they could achieve, so why not use that force for good?
That said, context is everything. I'm not a fan of the evangelical movement, or of Rick Warren, but I think this video is a bit disingenuous. Clearly, Warren is not an admirer of Hitler, Lenin, or Mao, nor does he expect his followers to behave like brownshirts.
Those who dislike aspects of the Christian Right would be better off engaging them honestly, and assuming that they are, at root, ordinary Americans with an ordinary sense of American decency.
I am truly hoping that the Obama era brings in an age of more dialogue in America's "culture war" and an end to the polarization we've seen in the last decade (well, truthfully, the last several decades, but it's been heightened under the Bush Administration).

What kind of MONGOLOIDS are you?
Don't you RETARDS get it? Warren's not saying his sheep should follow Hitler. He's saying they should follow him as their conduit to Jesus with the same level of MINDLESS BLOODTHIRSTY PASSION.
Two totally different things. And you complete and utter TROGLODYTES missed the entire point.
...uh, what's that now? You don't think Jesus would have his followers call someone RETARDED? Hmm...
(You do know you've opened yourself up for it, Chuck...)

Nor His follower. ;)
Re: Rick Warren Urges Followers to Emulate Hitler Youth
Wow, you could not make up this stuff if you wanted to!
Radical devotion?? I guess we should cut Muslims in the Middle East a break, since they aren't the only extremists encouraging blind, ignorant behavior. And I thought Rick Warren was a total douchebag before this!

You know, when you put it like that I might have to go back to Christianity if they have kicky enough uniforms.
