Bah, I should have included in the description that this is the first short that Pepe appeared in. Additionally, this is one of only two where he does not get amorous with Penelope Pussycat.

I never realized this was an allegory when I was a kid.

Methinks you're reading too much into this. ;-)

Just have fun with the animated short!

Re: Pepe le Pew: Odor-Able Kitty
In the beginning there was a pussycat. He was a hungry pussycat, but he lived in Paradise. The pussycat didn't think so, however. So he did the only thing he wasn't allowed to do: to be not a pussycat. Suddenly life was very good to him, but that was an illusion. Only through many tribulations was he able to regain his soul; but once he did, he was saved and truly lived in Paradise again, and he knew it to be Paradise.

If you want to make a religion out of it, be my guest.

Re: Pepe le Pew: Odor-Able Kitty
Chuck Jones, Pepé's creator, wrote that Pepé was based (loosely) on the personality of his Termite Terrace colleague, writer Tedd Pierce, a self-styled "ladies' man" who reportedly always assumed that his infatuations were requited.
