Matt Lauer vs Ann Coulter on Today Show

Ann Coulter appeared in the 7 AM hour of "Today" Wednesday morning, and Matt Lauer opened the interview by acknowledging "this little controversy."
When Lauer asked whether Coulter was behind the report that she was banned for life from the "Today" show, she responded, "I didn't say that. That was from a reliable news report that, by the way, has never had to retract a report on exploding GM trucks...like NBC."
Coulter then told Lauer, "It apparently took the 'Today' show eight hours to remember that there was a Wednesday show that I could be invited back to."
"We traded you out for Tony Blair yesterday," Lauer said, accusing Coulter of drumming up controversy to sell books. "And I think that's a pretty good switch."

Why do I watch Ann Coulter clips? Do I have some need to hurt myself?
...For that matter, why does anyone listen to her? And am I wrong, or did she kinda fade away for a while, there? Why didn't she remain irrelevant?
One of her last lines was about how grateful she was to G. Walker Bush for keeping us safe for the past eight years. She didn't say the past seven years, which would still be a fallacy; she said eight. Bush failed us. Forget everything else that he fucked up, he failed to keep us safe in 2001. (After writing this paragraph, it occurred to me that she was baiting Lauer to comment on that, perhaps to buy more air time.)
I know I probably don't need to point that out to anyone else on here, but I guess I just need to say it. Maybe because that's evidence that Coulter is either insane, or can't possibly believe what she's saying. Either way, why does she get any air time with the networks?
