Religulous is a 2008 American comedy/documentary film written by and starring political comedian Bill Maher and directed by Larry Charles. According to Maher, the title of the film is a portmanteau derived from the words "religion" and "ridiculous"; the documentary examines and satirizes organized religion and religious belief.

W_W, you've done it again. LET THE DEBATES BEGIN!
Re: Bill Maher's Religulous
I was surprised no one else had posted it yet; it had been up the Web for three days already when I Googled for it. Anyway, I suppose it'll disappear quickly. When I have money I'll buy some Maher DVDs. After all, that is a major source of income for Maher.
In the end I think putting documentaries and all that on the Web pays off in the long run for the copyright owners. I'm not saying this to polish my soul; I genuinely believe that's the case.

Not just docus, major film and television studios have found that embracing the technology and posting their own clips served to better promote their productions.
Of course, the MPAA and RIAA don't serve the artists or the studios. They are just self-serving SOB's who litigate their own customers.

Re: Bill Maher's Religulous
I very much enjoyed watching this, even though without any belly laughs. Amusing, yes. But I don't think Larry Charles or Maher were seeking only humor.
Frankly, I thought early on that Maher was going to get his arse kicked in the truckers' chapel.
And watching the discussion with Coyne was great. Not everyone has to be fanatical.

Even at his advanced age, I bet Bill could have outrun that fat guy wearing the circus tent.

Re: Bill Maher's Religulous
Not as funny as I'd hoped for. Nor as punchy. But still entertaining.
His ending monologue now seems a bit disjointed compared to the rest of the film as he talked about war and destruction that religion has caused....seeming to make a final point when that whole issue of destruction wasn't discussed at all really during the movie.
Eh, from a guy who's quick on his feet and can really pull some serious comedy punches, I thought this was weak. Clearly he's after more than comedy, but still....Bill you got more in you than this man.

Re: Bill Maher's Religulous
It's not supposed to be funny, it's supposed to be subversive. He'll say it's supposed to just be a funny movie for yuks and chuckles over and over, but make no mistake: Bill Maher is attacking the religious and the things they believe in. If you didn't think it was funny, you're right. It's depressing, and it's meant to be imflamitory.
And I thought it was fucking hilarious.

The Father Reginald Foster interview is fantastic.
He is, put simply, the coolest catholic priest I've ever seen, heard or read about anywhere. What an incredible man. To be a senior priest at the Vatican and then say all of those wise and rational things is such a brilliant oxymoron.
