This is the full uncut interview with Father George Coyne which was omitted from Richard Dawkins' television program "The Genius of Charles Darwin" for Channel 4 in the UK. RT 1:00:18.
For anyone even remotely interested in the relationship between science and religion, this interview is a must. One of the marvellous things about this interview is that both Fr. Coyne and Dr. Dawkins are showing that the accusations, the bigotry that often marks this type of discussion is not necessary, that it is perfectly possible to have a civil, but frank exchange of views, leading to a good general impression of where both parties stand.
George V. Coyne, S.J. (born January 19, 1933) is a Jesuit priest, astronomer, and former director of the Vatican Observatory and head of the observatory’s research group which is based at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona.

Re: Richard Dawkins with Father George Coyne
I agree that discourse can and should be civil. There's no need for shouting. There are times when both sides are simply going to disagree and we must simply agree to disagree. Personally, I disagree with Coyne's ideas and I feel that it totally undermines the bible - Let me explain....
The bible starts with the Genesis account of creation. This is a vital part of the bible and not just mythology of the early part of Judaism. In Genesis we learn of mans nature (sin), which explains the whole reason for the need for a redeemer. We learn why things are the way they are, why laws are required, the origin of the Jews, etc.
Now the important thing to me is that Jesus Christ himself refers to events that occurred in Genesis. He refers to them as if they happened. Therefore, if we deny Genesis, then way must admit that Jesus Christ was a liar or a lunatic, and I refuse to admit either.
I still refuse to accept that macro evolution is something that is more than theory. It MUST be theory because it takes to long to observe. If we can't observe something, then we can't pronounce it as fact. I will not deny micro evolution and I think it nothing more than genetic mutation, but I do not believe that anyone can prove macro evolution. Please, provide the transitional fossil evidence. There should be massive amounts of it, but there is not.
Anyway, the video was interesting and I'm sure that Dawkins wet himself over talking to a person who professes to be a Christian how kinda sorta agreed with him.

The most valuable attribute of humanity (indeed, the defining attribute) is our ability to comprehend and evolve ourselves. Congratulations to all who participate in this video.
