Boys and girls, this is what happens to you if you watch too much Bugs Bunny. Now, actually there isn't such a thing as "too much Bugs Bunny," but there is a fine line somewhere.

A Berliner is a type of jelly donut, true. But Kennedy said it properly and his detractors have managed to keep this alive for almost 50 years.

You are right, spam, and also is Izzard. "Ich bin ein Berliner" can mean both, but in this context "I am a donut." wouldn't seem seem logical for those who listened to the speech. "Ich bin ein..." just means "I am one of many...".

Ich bin Berliner = I am from Berlin.

Ich bin 'ein' Berliner = I am a jelly doughnut.
