Ahmadinejad delivers a startling message to the people of Britain in an "Alternative" Christmas message. The words he uses largly are more significant than those of the established Church!
I say Amen to Ahmadinejad, now he must show he can back his words by action.

The news media will continue to demonize him because that means continued access to those in power.

Do you think maybe, just maybe, he gets demonized because he denies the Holocaust, has openly called for the destruction of Israel, supports global terrorist organizations, oppresses women, homosexuals, and religious minoirties [to their death!] under his government, and is pursuing nuclear weapons in violation of every international agreement?
Naw, he came to power during the Bush regime, and has constantly antagonized America, and therefore Progressives should pledge solidarity with him.
Oh, and Bush is just as bad because not being able to get a marriage license is morally equivalent to being tortured and murdered for being gay. We've established that already.

Yep, all the "good" things he said need no religious basis. And likewise the majority of his criticisms with the western powers also have no religious basis. It would be great of ppl could communicate with one another instead of demonizing. Everyone does what they do for a reason.

During his appearence at the United Nations in 2006, Mahamoud Ahmadinajad claimed he was enveloped by a heavenly glow, and the audience of world leaders were put in a divine trance while he said a prayer for the apocalypse.

It was a well-composed -- even beautiful speech.
That said, I still think this guy is a douche, no matter how much he wraps himself up in the pious language of brotherhood and love.
But I guess it seems surprising because:
1) Westerners have forgotten that Iran is Persia, and has a very long tradition of high culture, poetry, and beauty that some like Ahmadinejad (a smart, educated guy) can draw from in addition to Islam's own rich poetic heritage.
2) Jesus Christ is actually a highly respected figure in Islam, considered one of the greatest prophets of all time aside from Mohammed himself (Muslims don't believe, however, that Christ is the Son of God, or God incarnated); also worth noting is that before the 20th century and the settlement of Palestine, Muslims and Middle Eastern Jews got along pretty well. They share common roots -- a shared ancestry and language, and Islam is directly derived from Judaism. But these days, it's all "Get your filthy hands off my desert."
3) Ahmadinejad is a clever and surprising guy -- his joy is tweaking the nose of the West, and coming up with surprises like this just when we think we know him.
4) Dammit, we would make a lot more progress with these people if Western leaders would vocally acknowledge the great civilizations and cultures of the Middle East and Islam, and the contributions they made to the world. I truly think cultural resentment against the West is the underlying motive for the rise of fanatical Islamicism.
But I still think this guy's a douche.
