Not Working?
In order to get rid of right-wing theocracy, you gotta nip it in the bud! Rick Warren is just another Right Wing Theocratic Ideologue for the delusional social conservative religious cult.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
Remember that time the majority of the country thought Obama was 'different' and would 'change' things and then he was elected and then he picked his cabinet and ppl were all like "awww, well that was fun"

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
Was it a dumb decision for Obama to invite Warren to give the invocatin? Yes. Was it a dumb decision for Warren to accept? Yes.
The bottom line is: Who cares? What's really important here? If you ask me, it's important that there is a moving speech that everyone can appreciate. It's not important who says it, the only thing that's important is what is actually said.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
"Dumb" really isn't the word to use here. It's like spitting on the Constitution, deliberately. But what the hell, spitting on the Constitution is no big deal for Obama; he does it all the time. Watch when his faith initiatives really kick off.
"Who cares?" Are you feeling all right? What would you have said if Obama had invited an active member of the KKK? Using Obama's "reasoning" (just a suck you back policy of his, in reality), he should embrace anyone who holds opposing views. But, indeed, in Obama's world, atheists and homosexuals are outside the Law, like Robin Hood was (and his merry men and fair lady). But oh no! Do not bash Jews. Do not bash religion. Do not bash those with darker skin. Those are three major no-no's in American politics. Obama knows all about that, and his whole goal is to elevate himself, which he does by slithering around everyone who can lift him up a notch.
Please don't give us that shit about it doesn't matter who says something and that the only thing that matters is what's being said. Now that's dumb. So if George W. Bush (ugh) gives a wonderful speech about spreading democracy all over the world, all is well?
Enough talk about Obama the Narcissist already. The man has so many fans, criticizing him may lead to serious accusations ranging from "Die, you racist" to "Fuck off, fucking atheist" and everything in between.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
Well, I was a bit drunk when I posted that, but yeah. Who cares? It's just an effing speech. The media is blowing it up because it's a slow news day and they're tired of talking about the recession.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
For the record, I completely agree with you that the media is trying to move our focus from the Depression to gay marriage. Why? Because it keeps us divided and moves our attention from the most pressing matter.
But that's why this issue is so disappointing. It's not about gay marriage per se. It's about dividing our nation at a time when We, The People most need to be unified.
I know a number of folks at M&C (myself included to be fair) have said Obama is the corporate choice. And he is. Look at his cabinet. But to now jump in bed with a wackpacker like Rick Warren who hates our Freedoms and would deny them to our fellow Americans based on their sexual life?
Oy vey.
Barack Obama has (had?) more political capital than other other President in my lifetime. He has (had?) a unified base of Americans in terms of bringing all factions of this nation together.
And he pulls something like this? It's not just dumb. It's divisive. Perhaps purposefully so...

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
I'm gay and I'm not offended by Mr. Obama's decision. Whatever party is in power: always makes the grievous error of alienating whoever is not their base. Mr. Obama's choice in cabinet members reflects his willingness to surround himself with multi-faceted viewpoints. It's called compromise and it's something Americans, even "liberal" democrats, would do well to learn and fast. What Mr. Warren says is hateful, but that's the price of free speech. Mr. Obama's choice is provocative and intriguing and I'm interested what Mr. Warren will say.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
I wanted to post comment: “Marriage is so gay”, but it sounded like something someone else already did, so I had to google it first...and yes...it’s already taken. Some dudes are selling t-shirts with those words.
Anyways, regardless of Obama’s position on marriage, I see marriage as some form of anomaly. Idea of marriage is heavily based on religious traditions, and at the same time it is state-recognized union of two people, bringing specific rights and obligations to those two. Now, the only logical step is separation of marriage and church, but I don’t think that will happen in our lifetime. The only other logical option is separation of marriage and state.
I think it is priority for gay couples to get legal recognition to have equal rights as straight couples. How we call that union really has no significance. Government should remove term marriage in legal documents and legally recognize civil union for all couples, and let church do whatever they want with their meaning of word “marriage”. I would be fine with that.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
One preacher is against gay marriage. Another preacher is against gay marriage AND believes the Jews manufactured the AIDS virus in order to kill black people.
Which one is more right wing? Which one did Barack Obama consider his spiritual mentor for 20 years?

He had a glimmer of hope of turning the conversation to the middle east again.

Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
It takes all sorts of people to make the world go round. Let's see if I can contribute something. Yes, let's discuss Russian chicks. So now we got another piece of the world in this thread. Someone is bound to mention Hitler soon, so that leaves us with a bit of Africa and the Far East to make a fairly round rock. I take it we can fill in the blanks.
Re: Olbermann on Rick Warren
Time to jump into the fray with just an observation of my own.
I dislike the choice of Warren for the invocation. But it's characteristic of what I've said about Obama for a long time: He's actually quite centrist. The far right kept painting him with the same lies that they did Kerry in 2k4; as being the most liberal senator. But the truth on both is that they were both closer to center than both of the Republican senators from Maine.
I do understand the hurt feelings expressed by the G&L community. Their battle for equality has a long way to go even with the many advances that they've made recently. That said, this selection of Rv. Warren does not break any campaign pledge that I'm aware of.
