Re: Phrase Collection
according to some search engine-
Snood: A clothlike covering for the hair of women in the fifth and sixth centuries. Sometimes the empress wore it under an elaborate jeweled diadem.

Re: Phrase Collection
This is the only page that comes up when I google "etruscan snood". I know I'm a bit late to this thread but I thought some geeks might be interested to know of (what I believe to be) the phrase's origin.
I first learnt of this phrase from a DC/Vertigo comic about a decade ago. I don't recall exactly which one, either Sandman, Swamp Thing or Hellblazer. It made me laugh out loud at the time and has stuck with me ever since. If I recall correctly, one of the characters was perusing his priceless collection of Etruscan snoods.
I happen to be watching a doco about Etruscan traders at this moment, which prompted me to google the phrase.

Re: Phrase Collection
My mistake. I thought that the Batman quotes related to a more modern cartoon series, rather than the 1966 TV version. In this case the Vertigo comic reference came almost three decades AFTER the original. oops. Where's the 'delete post' button when I need it?
