Usually, I don't comment. I don't believe in it. But since you ask so nicely and share all these great links, I'll make an exception.

Re: Reservoir Dogs: Tipping
Tarantino is a douche. He actually doesn't believe in tipping.

Re: Reservoir Dogs: Tipping
I love this scene. But I also find it convenient that none of the goons mention the labor standard exceptions and how wait staffs are typically paid below minimum wage.

I was actually going to make that observation instead of my smartass remark. But my impetuousness got the better of me.

Yes, the restaurant lobbyists are going to make certain that the tip credit remains forever.

Re: Reservoir Dogs: Tipping
Many states require that waitstaff make no lower than minumum wage, regardless of the federal allowance. I never made less than minimum wage for bussing or waiting tables.

Re: Reservoir Dogs: Tipping
Everything is so fucking expensive (at least where i live) that we don't waste a cent on tipping. It doesn't even come to mind (either the customer's or the waiter's).

If you can't afford to go to a restaurant, why do you go?

Re: Reservoir Dogs: Tipping
Did i say i can't? I said that everything has a price so high that it's out of question to tip over that. It's like the price already includes the tipping for the whole personel. On the other hand, the personel has a descent salary at least, they are not working for a misery (and yet i'm not sure of that). This is why tipping is not part of our mentality. If my steak wouldn't cost around $20 then i would tip. At least, tipping allows you to make sure your money goes to the employee you're tipping. While high-priced meals probably goes exclusively into the manager's pocket.
