Ron Paul Speaks Out Against Nationalizing
15 billion for the Big Three? (December 10, 2008)

Re: Ron Paul Speaks Out Against Nationalizing
The only thing I'd add to Paul's already brilliant remarks is that these "bailouts" are an obvious effort to steer us towards Wiemar Germany-style inflation.

This whole "bailout" smokescreen isn't even an actuall bailout per se. This "bailout" is just printing money to replace the real wealth lost in the decline of the dollar. And any "bailout" won't pay off corporate debt to save a company.

To repeat, none of this "bailout" will ever pay for corporate debt. This fleecing of taxpayers is only to replenish the wealth lost by most favored corporate powers who are taking these dollars and converting them into foreign holdings, precious metals, etc. Anything but the dollar. And We, The People will again be left holding the bag.

And in the meantime, we're printing fake money and flooding the economy with useless paper and calling it a "bailout" so people won't panic in the streets. Gotta keep people calm - if only through Christmas so parents will buy their kids Wiis.

But just wait. Come January when Obama takes over? All sh!t will hit the fan, and it won't be pretty.

Re: Ron Paul Speaks Out Against Nationalizing
That's all true, except for your misspelling of Weimar ;-)

Where am I going to find a job? Yesterday I got a message that one job offer dissipated entirely. I almost had a job a while ago, but "due to economic uncertainties" it's unlikely that the organization I want to work with is needing more people right now or for perhaps years.

Perhaps someone is looking to hire an assassin? I can catch lemmings and snow hares, but can also take down bigger stuff. This saves your family lotsa money buying lead for the bang bang machines. Everybody knows brave Americans should be saving every drop of lead they scrape off children's toys and momma's dildo to send to the boys in Iraq, Afghanistan, (ssssshhhh) Pakistan, and fifty other places.

Other noteworthy stuff on my resume: If you want to know what sort of butterflies you have in your garden, call me.

Come on, Obama. Allow your buddies at the Fed to print trillions more for your dumb highways, coal plants, and even dumber stuff GM and Co. pump out. Don't forget to start up some new wars to at least keep the weapons industry alive and well. At least you don't have to bailout the lawnmower industry: so many empty houses now and I guess someone has to mow that grass come spring. Would be nice to see what species are returning to those derelict suburbs. I love to see the days when dandelions overrun the White House’s front lawn. They make for good salads. Some ivy on the flaking walls behind you make for good paintings. Pigeon droppings collected from Washington Monument can go directly in the rose garden, as a form of excellent fertilizer. Oh, how romantic. Make love with a blonde under the stars while UN tanks roll by. Ah … Patience is a virtue. You could even, when it gets cold, burn US dollars in an empty oil barrel, and at the same time signal to the neighbors in the FBI headquarters. “Hullo! Anybody there! Want to trade? We got Cheney’s secret diary. Have you got Hoover’s? Wanna swap? Page 50 of Cheney’s diary is real cool.” “Yes, we are home, Wolf and all those ladies with you. We never can remember all their names. So many of them. Sounds interesting, that Cheney book. The Hoover one is in pristine collection. Want to know JFK’s murderer? Page 66. Rollicking good read. When the tanks are done chasing away the looters, let’s meet halfway. ‘Kay?”

We'll see. Everyone seems to talk about the impending dissolution of a democratic America with a measured nonchalance, but in actuality, we don't know as much as we think we know, and the politicians and their professionals may know even less. One cannot predict the full extent of the consequences of the actions of our nations. Regardless, anyone who knows anything is very scared.

Re: Ron Paul Speaks Out Against Nationalizing
Actually, I think we have an amazing opportunity right now. One major action we can all take at this moment is to use our money wisely.

Buy goods made in your local community. If they aren't made there, try goods made in your state. Then made in the USA. If you can't get 'em made in the US, try to buy as locally as you can.

Also stop assuming any new personal debt to include credit cards. As mentioned above, do all shopping at your local businesses. In fact, keep all your money local. Talk to your community members to see if they'll do the same.

Starve out the multinational corporations who ship the majority of the money you spend outside your community and outside the USA. Yes, this means people at Target, Wal-Mart, etc will be out of a job. As will Bank of America, Blockbuster, etc.

But if we've kept our money local with independent entrepreneurs (who then buy from our own businesses as well as plug money back into the local economy), we should ultimately see locally-owned individuals assuming the leases and business left vacant by the multinationals and thus strengthening our local economies. Even better if you can get them to make/sell American goods only...

May work. May not. But at least we can be positive and try.

And for the record, I don't know anyone who's nonchalant about this topic. The reason folks talk about it often to repeatedly get the word out so we're all aware, prepared, and proactive. And the above ideas aren't the only avenue we have. Our future is only limited by our creativity.

Because the worse thing we could do is sit back and take a "we'll see" attitude placing our future in the hands of corporate behemoths with their less than stellar track records.

Couldn't hurt. No need to worry about retaliation. What goods does the US actually produce and export? Aside from Hollywood flicks? And those are pirated in the lands that used to buy our manufactured items.

I'm no macroeconomic genius. But I do know that if I have no income coming in to not post huge expenditures on my Visa card.

:) Actually, the US still produces lots of goods. Pet supplies, books, food, you name it. And speaking of food, buy from your local farmer or co-op instead of getting things out of season shipped thousands of miles from overseas to your chain supermarket...

And even if a product's components are made overseas, you can still support a manufacturer in the US. My laptop is all bits and stuff from China. But I got it built by a locally-owned shop. Cost? $500 for a kick-ass laptop. Great service and cheaper than Best Buy.

Also, I only buy used clothes these days. Why? Because I'm a painfully pretentious uber-hipster who rides a fixie, of course. (j/k...I ride a 10-speed ;) Actually, these clothes tend to be cheaper, better built, longer lasting, and are sold by a local business.

There are lots of cool ways we can creatively use our money to keep it in our local economies and thus not contribute to the trade deficit that is ruining our nation's financial health. Doesn't mean we can all make these changes immediately. Just start with what you can.

Re: Ron Paul Speaks Out Against Nationalizing
It's too late now. The US has never been a free market capitalist economy, so what difference does it make if we hand 15 billion to private corporations. Unless there is some serious radical change, this kind of debate is already moot.
