I may not agree with all he says, but we need more like him.

Yes! I agree with Ron Paul in his definition of what patriotism is in the classical American sense of the word- resistance against the oppressive state in the name of the well being of your people (the Americans). Not to be confused with obedient, redneck, flag-wavers who support the endeavors of their politicians over the freedoms of the individual. This is the kind of thing I’ve been saying for a while now, granted in a less formulated way than Paul.

Re: Ron Paul: In the Name of Patriotism
Obama won the election and has a near super-majority of Democrats in the Congress. Those red-neck flag wavers are now the dissenters. Its time to change this "dissent is the highest form of patriotism" mantra, because dissenting conservatives will now be able to claim they are patriotic when, in fact, they are not.
Only those who reject military interventionalism overseas to fight Islamic terrorism, and only those who support socialist, class warfare economic policies, can be considered patriotic Americans.
Anyone who believes an unborn fetus is a human being, or that marriage is to be defined as one man and one woman CANNOT be considered patriotic. That means you, Ron Paul. You are NOT a patriot.

"The true patriot ... rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state." -Ron Paul
A patriot is someone who loves their country and someone who takes responsibility for the well being and rights of their fellow citizens. You don't have to support particular socialist policies or class warfare economic policies to do that. We each have our own interests. People who run food drives and take no interest in economics are still patriotic.
Patriotism has to do with care. It doesn't make any difference what your religious world view is or your stance on abortion or marriage.

People need to learn that sarcasm or satire doesn't work on the internets.

Re: Ron Paul: In the Name of Patriotism
but u have to understand that it is not republican or democrat that we are dissenting against. After all, Dr. Paul is a republican. Its the corrupt power structure governed by, international and investment banks, huge, greedy multinational corporations and the military industrial complex that we aim our dissent towards. The party system is a red herring, a distraction, a way to turn the fury inwards not upwards.
Now, this is to assert that patriotism is good at ALL. Patriotism stems from nationalism, another function of inward turned anger and aggression. The key here is not so much to be patriotic so much as being humanitarian, having love for people as a whole. And if an entity that was put in charge to further that end has altered course and started serving its own purposes then God-damn it, down it must come. This is patriotism: " I love my brothers and sisters in my country to the point that I will fight against whatever entity would seek to harm or do nothing to prevent harm against them." If that means the government, so be it. If that means religion, so be it. If that means irresponsible business, so be it.
Our hope in the future is to expand the definition to include all in the world and not just our nation.
