Minority Report OS >>
If you've been waiting for that Minority Report-style interface to really come to fruition, you can finally exhale. One of the science advisors from the Steven Spielberg film -- along with a team of other zany visionaries -- has created an honest-to-goodness, real-world implementation of the computer systems seen in the movie.
Dubbed g-speak, the mind bending OS combines "gestural i/o, recombinant networking, and real-world pixels," to deliver what the creators call "the first major step in [a] computer interface since 1984."
There are some things that need to seen to be understood, so watch the video and prepare to have your mind thoroughly blown to bits.

Re: Minority Report OS
If there is one thing I have learnt from playing Nintendo Wii, it is that controlling something by holding your arm out in front of you becomes pretty uncomfortable after a relatively short period of time.
On top of this, our muscles aren't very accurate when they have to both maintain elevation AND accurately control movement (think of holding a laser pointer, and how difficult it is to keep it pointing at the same spot) - it is much better if we have a surface to rest our arms on, ala a keyboard, mouse and table. I'm not saying that our current control methods are perfect, but these "thin air" concepts are nothing more than current versions of those 50's "technology of the future" films - wishful, but flawed, thinking.

Actually, if you keep your arms more proximally situated, they don't become tired. Less range of motion, but this is a classic case of the mechanical advantage gained by a lever.

Re: Minority Report OS
Ya, no kidding. I get tired playing Wii for more than 2 minutes. Nevermind the fact that I am a weakling.
When are they going to make a computer that reads my thoughts so I can just veg out and do nothing and still get my work done?
