Jonathan 'DJK' Kim reviews the 1979 film 'Norma Rae' for Meet the Bloggers.
Norma Rae, starring Sally Field in an Oscar-winning performance, is one of the best movies about unions youll ever see. Its the godmother of films about impassioned single moms who stand up to sexism and uncaring corporations to demand workers rights and corporate accountability. Erin Brockovich, Charlize Theron in North Country, Im looking at YOU.
Field plays Norma Rae, a 31-year-old single mom living in a small southern town in 1979. She works in a textile mill under terrible conditions with little to look forward. But one day, a union organizer played by Ron Liebman arrives and inspires her to organize the mill workers so they can demand a living wage and fair treatment.
