Re: Daily Show: Community Organizers
Great segment with the "conservative Christian" community organizer in Southeast Ohio*.
An excellent example of a very compassionate and concerned person who probably shares very little of my political outlook -- and yet I can easily respect and admire her.
I would truly like to see the Culture Wars (so encouraged by the GOP in the last 20 years) come to an end. Can't Americans discuss their disagreements without resorting to hateful rhetoric?
Can't we instead agree to disagree, and focus on the values we hold in common, and work towards those goals?
But politicians and the media work very hard to divide us.
*(Incidentally, a region of the country I am quite familiar with. I know exactly the kind of person this woman is, and the kinds of people she is helping. There is unspeakable poverty in Appalachia even today. Unfortunately, that region is very likely to vote Republican because they are easily swayed by the moralistic rhetoric designed to appeal to them.)
