obama and mccain certainly both have a good sense of humor. the mccain part of the roast is on this site too. (not headlined though). you can view it by putting al smith in the search engine.

Re: Obama Roasts McCain at Al Smith Dinner
Saw it on CNN. McCain is indeed funny and likeable in his turn at this event.
And I think (as I've commented elsewhere on this site) that McCain is likeable when he's relaxed, which is why he was a darling of the media until the current campaign.
But he has seriously compromised whatever integrity he has left, has demonstrated his incompetence (or enslavement to the GOP) by picking Palin as VP, and seems to have few ideas in a critical era in which we badly need a new approach.
So, I think he's a likeable guy. I also think Huckabee is a likeable guy, although I feel he'd be an even worse disaster as President. Hell, I even feel Sarah Palin is quite likeable (downright charismatic), but I also think she is one of the scariest demagogues who's ever come so close to White House.
Sorry, but amiability is just a small quotient in who I would vote into the White House. I don't want someone I'd enjoy having a beer with. I want someone who is smart, informed, and capable of making calm, rational decisions during a crisis.
I've seen what the guy I'd like to have a beer with has done over the last eight years, and I don't want to see it again.

Re: Obama Roasts McCain at Al Smith Dinner
I wonder if, later on when the race is over, he'll admit that Palin was not the best choice for VP, and it was done just to pull votes.
I brought this up to a McCain supporter, and even they admitted it, and saw no problem with this. The end justifies the means for a sad few.

Re: Obama Roasts McCain at Al Smith Dinner
While it all seems to settle down in regards to high-strung emotions over the last few weeks and the constant media babble, I cannot force myself to say that Palin is a likeable character.
She's a narrow-minded, white-bread and downright ignorant person. That kind of ignorance always gives me the chills ...power and stupidity combined make a dangerous mix, like a Zombie (cocktail) that leads to a serious headache the next morning.
While I think McCain is one of the best Republican candidates over the last decades, I truly and utterly despise Palin for what she is.
