Tell McCain to End the Politics of Hate
We'd like to talk about the pressing issues facing our country: the woeful economy, rising unemployment, the housing crisis, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But we can't talk about them because John McCain and Sarah Palin have distracted us with the politics of hate and fear.

Instead of discussing the real issues plaguing Americans, McCain and Palin have turned to fear-mongering and race-baiting, stoking the prejudices of their supporters. The situation has become so critical that we've teamed up with Color of Change to put an end to these dangerous mob scenes.

Things have gotten so out of control that some conservatives have come forward to denounce McCain and Palin's hate-mongering. In an Op-Ed for The Baltimore Sun, Frank Schaeffer writes: "John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as "not one of us," I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence."

Don't let McCain and Palin undo the decades spent fighting for civil rights and equality in our country.

Fortunately, McCain has turned the corner on this, even if many of his supporters haven't gotten the message.

This is speculation on my part, but I've got a hunch that McCain wouldn't have "turned the corner on this" if these latest foul tactics had paid off. Sorry to be so negative.

Yes and no. Consider me to be naive if you like but the McCain of 2000 would never have launched this type of attack. This is purely Atwater-Rove in nature and I'd like to think that McCain does not want his legacy to bear that burden.

But yes, if it had worked, he would have rode it to the Oval Office and probably later regretted it with some kind of apology once in office.

Re: Tell McCain to End the Politics of Hate
Yeah, it is kind of sad. I'm technically a democrat, but I've never been a line voter, I always look at the issues and what this clown has done versus that clown.

While the primaries were cruising along, I'd already pegged Obama as my candidate. However, I haven't liked Hillary for a looooong time, and she was still very much in the running. So, I was looking at Republicans to see what they offered.

I'd decided that McCain was the one Republican I could possibly vote for if it ended up being him and Hillary. How times have changed.

Obviously, the guy I chose is in the running for the big prize. However, I would never vote for McCain at this point because he has seriously lost his way. Palin was the final straw for me. The moment he chose her as his running mate, I lost pretty much any respect I had remaining for him. It was probably his most irresponsible decision of the entire campaign.

He's turned the corner in the same way that ridiculous campaign smears are pulled out of circulation. It doesn't matter if they're retracted, the damage is already done. People get that in their heads and they don't think "well they took it back."

After 8 yrs of lies and bullsh*t from bush, I'm not about to vote for a candidate who based his campaign on lies and smears.

Anyone with an IQ above their age, will call out these republican bozos!

BTW, I've voted republican all of my life.

Not this November.
