McCain Tries to Tame Flames He Earlier Fanned
John McCain at a campaign rally, October 10, 2008

Re: McCain Tries to Tame Flames He Earlier Fanned
Unfortunately, this clip is misleading. McCain continued spreading fear and hate at that same rally by bringing up the Ayers connection again, and his campaign released a new smear ad that same day.
What you're seeing in the clip is, I think, nothing more than misdirection. The trick is to sling as much mud as you can while making it seem like you are above it.
He probably didn't expect the boos, though.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but which side is doing the misdirection here?
For McCain: It may make him seem more reasonable, if you're saying that he said things contradictory to what this clip shows in that rally.
For Obama: It makes his supporters look REALLY stupid. I mean, how do you praise someone as your future leader, and then boo him when he tells you his point of view?
I did find it interesting that McCain did NOT specify Obama's real religion, but only said he is an American. He doesn't seem very eager to let his supporters know that he's not the only Christian running for office.

Wow, I'm actually shocked to see this and I didn't think anything could shock me at this point in politics! I'm afraid that the damage has already been done by the type of campaigning the McCain camp has been doing.
Did anyone else notice the hair of the lady who thinks Obama is an Arab? I think she's the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons! And she sounded pretty hot...

What's that McCain?
Are you hearing it now?
Starting to see what you've accomplished?

Maybe McCain's begun to realize that if he inspires so much hate that a tragedy occurs he would be the most reviled man in America. What must trouble him are boos he gets when he tries to correct the hate he's already helped to create. Some base he's got there.

Re: McCain Tries to Tame Flames He Earlier Fanned
So apparently people are so dumb to believe that despite being a terrorist, Barack Obama was allowed to become a U.S. Senator, and now allowed to run for President. What really scares me is that if Obama does become president, he's going to need double the security of any president before him because the religious right will be after him as much as any other enemy. (If listening to them now is any indication).
If the 9/11 attacks hadn't happened, and there wasn't this irrational fear of anything Arab or Muslim, would people be reacting to him this way? If his name was Leroy Sanderson instead of Barack Obama would they be 'ascared' of him because he was just black and not black and a terrorist? I think it's a convenient excuse to use the terrorist angle so they don't have to say they're prejudiced. One of my favourite soundbites was from a white woman in Virginia: "I won't vote for him because he's black. I'm not racist, I just don't want a black man as President.'

It's like with bar fight where some drunk jerk realizes what crap he said about the one sitting next to him and now tries to settle things down: “let’s hug buddy...no harm done...I love you dude!”, while trying not to fall from his bar chair.

Lol. That's quite that. At least this was a good point for McCain, for once. Even if there can be some kind of strategy in this, it's better to respect and consider your enemy/opponent. This and when he admited he graduated in the bottom five. He would have been a much better candidate than he's actually seen today if playing the honesty card a little more.

Re: McCain Tries to Tame Flames He Earlier Fanned
I always believed that McCain always agree with the GOP and that he was bipartisan. However, do you think that the GOP want bipartisanship? Hells no. They're a political party for christssake. So the notion that the GOP would allow McCain to be bipartisan is absurd, but they will gladly promote that he was because of the anti-bush sentimate.
So he is a maverick but the GOP just don't want him to be. That's why, in his speaches, he talks about his past, which is impressive, but not about his plans, which contradict his past.
The final testimate to him being a GOP tool is the nomination of Sarah Palin, who has been fanning those flames more than anyone. --It's all she talks about now.-- If McCain was such a Maverick he would have picked Joe Lieberman for VP as he originally wanted to instead of Sarah Palin.

EDIT: First sentance
"...McCain [DOESN'T] always agree..."
There, now it makes sense.
