A lively interview with Douglas Adams, who's best known for his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Richard Dawkins dedicated his The God Delusion to Adams, and in his book described how Adams came to understand evolution and afterward called himself a radical atheist. Adams passed away on May 11, 2001, eight days after this interview.

Re: Big Thinkers: Douglas Adams
At least once a year, I make a point to read all five books of the Hitchhiker's Trilogy. At the end, I find myself somewhat disconnected from my social life, since I usually pound through it in a week. I try to fit Dirk Gently in where I can.
I also enjoy playing through the HHGTTG text game when I can, even though it requires almost zero thought, since I've played through it so many times. Never had the opportunity to play Starship Titanic. Anyone know if it's worth seeking out?
Big up for the DA post.

My invitation of friendship must have been waiting in your Inbox quite some time, but I see my DA post finally convinced you that W_W can't be all that bad after all ;-)
Re: Big Thinkers: Douglas Adams
I'm surprised I got to it as fast as I did. I normally don't notice new messages for a while. I guess I just like to age my messages.

Ah, you must be a lover of fine wines and smelly cheeses, then.

Love the Hitchhikers Guide.
Got my sister into it too and she loves it.

Re: Big Thinkers: Douglas Adams
I really miss him.
I started reading the Guide during the war in Sarajevo 1993. My friend gave it to me and said once I start reading I will not be able to stop. The war was ugly, and people were shot by sniper fire on daily basis those days underneath my window. Electric power was disconnected most of the time...and on one particular night I was reading this book under the candle light. At many points I started laughing really loud...and finally my grandpa got up and entered my bedroom and started shaking his head “My son...what are you doing to yourself????”. And me saying: “No grandpa...it’s not drugs...it’s the book!”
Thank you Douglas Adams! You made some of my darkest war nights very bright!

Re: Big Thinkers: Douglas Adams
Ah man. Adams is talking about trying to make a real life Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy and dies in the same year that Wikipedia was founded. He never saw it happen. Where's the cosmic justice in that?
