Full 2008 Vice Presidential Debate with Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden.

Re: Full Vice Presidential Debate with Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden
It was a good debate. The moderator behaved, like the previous one, like a moderator. The candidates talked relatively well, though I seriously disliked Palin's incredible overuse of 'also' and disagree strongly with her views. Palin did evade some of her and McCain's problem areas; and she did so conspicuously. She and Biden were both polite, more or less. No real problems there. Palin did keep coming back to the lie that Obama would raise taxes. She repeated her trusted talking points again and again. Biden came up with really good counter arguments (and I now remain of the opinion that he isn't verbose at all, at least not when he doesn't want to be).
It was a pity that the debate seemed to focus a little too much on the presidential candidates, instead of on these two. This way, Palin's (and, to a lesser extent, Biden's) controversial opinions were mostly kept under the rug. Palin mentioned women's rights once, and I chuckled. I was disappointed that Biden did not follow that one up.
Biden won, in my opinion; but he didn't blast Palin away. He won more decisively against Palin than Obama did against McCain, though I can make a good case that Obama didn't win in his debate (but that is was a draw).
Ridiculous that this is the only VP debate this time around; if Palin continues to evade many interviewers and McCain and she win (very unlikely), I don't think 'ordinary' people have been given enough opportunity to get to know Palin (Biden is well known). Arguably, one only needs to watch one interview with Palin to make an informed decision, but it isn't acceptable that the Republicans toy with the voters. I hope they lose big. Granted, Obama and Biden, too, are a bit troublesome, what with especially their views on international issues such as Pakistan and Iran, and domestic economics (though they are far preferable to McCain's views on these issues). That bailout would be a huge blow to the dollar -- and most American people.

In the past, I would've been happy if "my candidate" won. This time around, I will be profoundly disappointed with the voters if McCain gets more than 40% of votes.

Re: Full Vice Presidential Debate with Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden
I thought the post debate commentary was pretty revealing. Frank Luntz (Fox pollster) found that overwhelmingly people thought Palin was the winner (something incredible like 80%). The mainstream gave a slight edge to Biden although I would have given him nothing more than a razor thin margin of victory.
For the record, I would have liked to see Biden get the nomination for the top billing. He's a hard working class act and very experienced in foreign policy as well as commerce and banking.
BTW, it ain't even close any longer. Go visit www.electoral-vote.com and review. National polls mean nothing. The individual state tallies are what matter in this absurd electoral college mess. But my forefathers and framers of the Constitution decided that the masses were too stupid to have their votes count and this was their solution.

As I said, it is very unlikely that the McCain/Palin Ticket wins.
Would you please explain why you think Biden only won by a razor-thin margin? I'm interested to know.

Ya know, Dub_Dub, I was considering replying in a PM but I realize that both your comment and my response are very much a part of this thread.
Palin did not embarrass herself, like she did in the Katie Couric interviews. Though I do not agree with many of her views, I respect a good delivery.
Biden won, only because he had presented specifics and Palin waved vague generalities. She totally lacks a command of knowledge when it comes to the issues.
She's still totally unqualified to be commander in chief. The actuarial odds are almost one in five that McCain will kick the bucket due to natural causes in his first term. Scary enough?
But to get around to answering your question? I've seen Joe Biden on Sunday morning news shows (Meet the Press, George Stephanopoulous, etc.) more than two dozen times. I know he can give a far more convincing argument than he did. He was pulling punches to avoid giving the impression that he was beating up on the poor woman. Probably rightfully so because we all know how Barack Obama took heat as if he was being sexist when he opposed Hillary Clinton's positions.
Both candidates here played to NOT LOSE rather than to take charge. That's okay, because quite frankly, we know that the victory will not be because of the Veep choices; it will be a result of how many middle-America and independents the lead on the ticket can garner.

To the contrary, I hope and pray that more of the people targeted by the Palin pick wake up and realize that she is nothing but a panderer, and they then lose spectacularly because of that Veep choice.

Re: Full Vice Presidential Debate with Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden
Hope all you like but please don't pray. Does no good. Instead, take action and spend time distributing flyers or work in a get-out-the-vote campaign.
Hey, I resigned my position at an adserving company and am hard at work doing some volunteer effort. Sad thing is, here in Blue York, it's not as useful as it might be if I were in say Toledo, Columbus, Jacksonville, etc.

Dub_Dub? Grrrrrr ... what does that mean?
Anyway, I did notice Biden was awfully nice. You can tell he's a good person. Palin was artificially nice.
Elsewhere in this thread, I read you're doing some volunteering. Very good! I always knew you would one day sell bibles from door to door ;-)

"Frank Luntz (Fox pollster) found that overwhelmingly people thought Palin was the winner (something incredible like 80%)."
Well, Palin did recite Faux News talking points over and over, so the Faux audience got to hear from her what they've been hearing for years, which is to say, she pushed all the brainwash buttons.
Heck, she's part of the Faux audience, reads no newspapers, etc, she actually believes the crap she spews, so it was more of a group reinforcement therapy in full effect.
Something else to take into consideration, the bully pulpit known as Faux always finds ways to skew and fudge data towards a certain slant.

I stopped reading at "Fox pollster".

Re: Full Vice Presidential Debate with Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden
Regardless of your political persuasion, I would just like everyone to take a moment to contemplate hearing the phrases "You betcha," "Hockey Mom," and "Maverick" for the next four years.
Seriously. If you've decided you're not going to think about any of the issues or qualifications of the candidates whatsoever, just think about that one absolutely certain outcome of this election before you vote.

Best laugh I've had all day. Based in truth but highly amusing.

Re: Full Vice Presidential Debate with Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden
I always use 'you bet'; I hadn't heard of hockey moms before and maverick isn't a staple in my arsenal of words. But yeah, many people will be scarred for life even if McCain/Palin lose ... especially hockey moms.
