Re: Real Time: Bill Maher & Chris Rock
We used to count votes, but now we count bacon.
It's true, though--they did pull that shit on Gore.

Re: Real Time: Bill Maher & Chris Rock
They'll do that again come November. Sotto Voce: 'Something Wicked This Way Comes.'
However, it's difficult for them to pull it off successfully again; I think Obama's base is larger than McCain's, and on top of that I've no doubt that Obama backers are more strongly motivated to vote. They'll come out in droves. Granted, that's what happened the previous two elections, too, with the legions of Gore and Kerry voters; but now the blue tide can't be held back by the Republicans, I'm 70% sure.
Why only 70% sure, you ask? Well, I'm right now watching that debate (52:49 minutes in) and so far McCain hasn't been crushed. Rather, he's playing his dirty game quite well. Obama is doing a solid job, but again and again sucks on the old man's dick. He should lash out at him with brutal facts, directly, and force an honest and clear answer from McCain. Highlight McCain's abysmal voting record on veteran-related care. Call him out on scandal after scandal, lie after lie.
This McCain twists everything around, and says only that which suits him at the moment. And what's that stuff about Miss Congeniality? And it's gonna be tough. It's gonna be tough. Right.
Plus, I suspect there's an awful amount of folks who fall for McCain's lies or won't simply vote for a colored man. Sorry if that seems bleak.
The good news is that the Republicans are REALLY worrying about their newest dumbshit creation, Mrs. Palin.
Anyway, ultimately it's my opinion that both candidates offer no real solutions. Yes, McCain would be disastrous (and worse than Bush II, as I've said before); but Obama is too much of a compromiser and system proponent that he won't be much good, either.
Too bad Orwell can't see this, though I think he did see it all in his time. Only the names have changed.

But how sure are you? That's devious territory to track upon. I mean, Because McCain hasn't been "crushed", how handedly does that change the election?
Stubborn people will remain stubborn, no matter how the argument goes.

Re: Real Time: Bill Maher & Chris Rock
Update: I finished the debate yesterday, and have to admit Obama got better as time passed. Most polls say Obama won. That is my opinion, too; but he sure didn't put McCain under any real pressure. That's a mistake in today's climate of widespread dumbness; Obama should have destroyed McCain. I think a lot of people aren't wise enough to see McCain's complete hubris and stupidity. Just about everything he said was planned -- and grated on my senses, it was so foul. Obama kept the 'high ground', true, but in my opinion he should've burned McCain to the ground instead of saying he was right every other sentence. McCain's hatred of Obama was clearly visible. In the end, some will only come away with a few nuggets of what they think separated these two men: 'Obama wants to talk to terrorists, Obama said the Surge was BS, Obama wants to increase spending, Obama is a liberal, Obama-what-was-he-saying-I-couldn't-understand-him, Obama is black.'
What was particularly enraging were McCain's attempts at sounding knowledgeable about the Caucasus; how he rattled off exotic names and who did what, man he had to get that out of his system real quick or it would all have slipped his mind. The old fuck is mad.
Sometimes it is said that these people (neocons, Christian Right, other power-bent people) can't be rotten through and through; they supposedly do truly think that what they're doing is right. Well, that may be so with a few, but if anyone opens his/her eyes, it's plain and simple for him/her to see: most of these people are liars and are only after what they want for themselves. I have zero respect for those people. If it had been me up there debating McCain, I wouldn't have shaken his hand, that's for sure. Nor would McCain have been able to finish the debate, but felt compelled to run home crying. Then again, maybe a good slice of the world would've thought I had gone stark raving crazy, what with me saying that bankers are controlling governments, and more stuff. Why, they'd have locked me up!
(And hey! did you notice Obama wore a flag pin and McCain did not? This fact alone would've given me plenty of opportunities to crush McCain in the debate. But what the hell, what does it matter. I listened to Obama and am convinced he's a dimwit, too. He'll go around policing the world, mark my words. The guy hasn't a firm grasp on world affairs, or maybe he does know but his rotten advisers (check them out) tell him to lie.)
'Nuff said. Writing makes me hungry. I see an unkindness of ravens up there behind some firs. Maybe a dead moose ...

Re: Bill Maher: Chris Rock
I remembered when I first saw Rock on SNL in the early 90s... and thought, this guy sucks! He is so unfunny they should fire him...
Since then, Rock has become not only one of the funniest comedians in the business, but also one of the most spot-on, savagely observant political commentators in the country...
With him and Jon Stewart, it's been easier to get through these trying times...
