Wow. They found a conservative guy (Andrew Sullivan) who's not stupid, crazy, mean-spirited, and/or dishonest. He's not even all that ugly.

Bill Maher is a douche to religious people. He rarely distinguishes the severity with which religion pervades the thought processes of a person's mind as carefully as Sullivan did, he rarely treats them with respect, and therefore he's going to have a hard time making any headway, unless headway to him is a stroking his intellect and creating a bad image of atheists, agnostics, and naturalists everywhere. He quickly qualified his statements and even retracted when Sullivan called him out. I like this Sullivan character.

Re: Real Time: Palin is Bush in Drag
I can agree that Bill Maher isn't necessarily someone to look up to, but he's no more bigoted toward religious people than religious people are to atheists. I'm a strict atheistic scientist from a religious family living in a religious town and I am shunned. Religious people are bigoted toward anyone that doesn't belong to their failth. They may not show it on TV, but when they're in their little groups, I am the devil and everything that is wrong with Amerca.

Nootch.

Well said.

Yet, I have to say that I'm rather glad Maher doesn't bother wasting time with making that distinction whenever he speaks. Saves time; makes room for more hilarious cracks at those truly deranged variety of faithful folk. Ya know.

It's no fun if you have to please everyone.

Besides, those that do happen to get offended... well... they can just chalk it up to a challenged of their faith or something. Which is healthy... and it might impress their deity, as well.

See, Maher ain't so bad.
