Re: Bill Maher: Palin, Politics and Truth
This was a pretty tense show. It was pretty much a bitch-fest between Garofalo and that Douche next to her. Bill and Salman were back-burner warmers...or something.

Re: Bill Maher: Palin, Politics and Truth
The conservative has a point: attacking Palin so bluntly is helpful to her, and McCain's, chances of swaying voters. Which sucks ass because she IS a total idiot and has frighteningly inadequate experience for someone who could quite possibly become the Commander in Chief one day. (shivers)

But the truth is, being wrong and polite has more influence on American voters than right and rude. (I really hate this)

Justified or not; I cannot deny that both Maher and Garofalo were interrupting the pro-Palin guy way too much. I don't see why they couldn't just let the guy have a proper say... and THEN lay into him.

Nevertheless, after eight years of Bush, I can see why thinking people are scared and frustrated at the thought of another neocon administration which aims to stir up shit in the world and attack social liberties.

To be fair, I respect the opinion that Obama and Biden are full of shit too. But, no one can say that they are any worse. At least they speak intelligently, have a few fresh ideas, don't play the same kind of dirty pool that is found in some of the latest McCain ads, and understand that separation of church and state is not something you fuck with - like ever.

That was John Fund of the Wall Street Journal (how ironic is that name for that publication?). He's a staunch conservative but also a respected editorial guy.

Look, the funny thing is that the New York Times and the WSJ are on opposite ends of the political spectrum but aside from their editorial pages, the news reported in each is still about 95% the same in between. As funny as I find Maher, his positions are a little closer to Air America Radio and FoxNews Channel. I'm just a believer in avoiding distortion of news and instead to clearly demarcate it from opinion.

Re: Bill Maher: Palin, Politics and Truth
Even though I am a Carlin "fanboy", I still don't think anyone should look to comedians for direction on such things. Funny people, like Maher, may have an interesting perspective which is (at times) thought provoking... but that doesn't mean he should have much influence over what a person believes (see "preaching to the choir" comment). Ya, ya... people let themselves be swayed anyway, and Maher does dance the edge between a real debate and stand-up... but so what. It's still comedy.

Besides, what a boring world it would be if no one publicly expressed opinions that were unfavorable to others... or expressed those opinion without emotion. Human beings like conflict.

Imagine what Maher's show would be like if he was a Vulcan...

Maher: "Today, Governor Palin was chosen to be Republican Presidential candidate Senator McCain's running mate. No, not his breeding partner. That would be highly illogical: McCain's sperm production and problematical health - due to his expeditious human cell degeneration - would make him unsuitable for that. (deadpan) Ha ha ho ho. Furthermore, Governor Palin is already wedded. In addition, she is also an ultra social conservative. Thus, for her to engage in pair bonding with a mate that is not her own would be most unfavorable amongst her peers. many of them could become so displeased with her that they may loose the respect they gained for her after learning that she may have utilized her position of influence to fire someone she held a personal opposition to. Ho Ho Oh... I am being immoderate again. He he."

Re: Bill Maher: Palin, Politics and Truth
If a man with a couple of terms as a mayor, who then ran for govenor and won, mentioned presidential politics before his first term was over, he would be told to "sit at the kiddy table, the adults are talking".

Mrs. Palin was ASKED to be part of presidential politics only because she's a women. Which makes everything after that tainted.

You want "the Hillary vote"? You should have chosen Hillary.

Sarah Palin is the Barack Obama of Republicans.

No experience, and a paper thin understanding of finance and world affairs; all platitudes and emotiveness.

Re: Bill Maher: Palin, Politics and Truth
I'm so tired of hearing the "Obama is inexperienced" argument. It's just not true, no matter how many times it's repeated by Fox and McCain.

Obama has been a Senator for 10 years. He serves on three of the four Senate Committees dealing with foreign policy issues - Foreign Relations; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs committees and is the Chair of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Relations which is responsible fore U.S. relations with European countries, the European Union, and NATO. To top it off, he graduated from Columbia University with a degree in political science with an emphasis on international relations, and taught Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago Law School for 12 years.

Saying he has "no experience" and a "paper thin understanding of finance and world affairs" only shows how little you actually know about the man.

At least Obama has enough mental capacity to be able to know what's going on around the world and how he would deal with the situations.
