Re: Matt Damon Rips Sarah Palin
Matt's one-in-three chance that McCain doesn't survive his first term is actually very incorrect (it shocked me, so I went to verify).
Based on the 2001 CSO mortality table (the industry standard and "actuary table" Matt's talking about), the average 72-year-old man's chances of seeing his 76th birthday are pretty good - around 87%. Said another way, a 13% chance that he won't make it through all four years.

Re: Matt Damon Rips Sarah Palin
Not exactly... I'm guessing any actuarial table you looked was more of an industry stand and didn't take into account McCain's more significant health variables - his multiple cancers, 6 years in a POW camp, the pressure of being leader of the free world if he's elected, etc.
In fact, McCain's totally off the charts - there probably is no actuarial table for McCain. Because that type of person? He'd be uninsurable. :)
So the real truth is probably somewhere in the middle between what you and Damon estimate.
And is what Palin brings to the table (nothing so far except campaign excitment) worth the 40% chance that Palin will be flying solo dealing with China and the Middle East?
That's Matt's point. She's not worth the risk.
She can't duck terrorists like she's ducking interviews with Time Magazine. And she can't out-whine Osama Bin Laden when he does something she doesn't like.
There were lots of capable Republican female candidates. Palin just happens to not be one of them.

Re: Matt Damon Rips Sarah Palin
There may have been more "capable" female Republican candidates, but do any of them have the lack of concern or the vaginal muscles necessary to hold a premature baby with Downs' syndrome in their uterus for thirteen hours after their water breaks? I THINK NOT.
Don't you get it? She's TOUGH.

I met Damon once. He's a heavy drinker. Great guy. Smart too.
